Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees Betting Preview

Tuesday night will feature an interleague showdown as the Atlanta Braves (7-9) take on the New York Yankees (5-10). The Yankees will host this one at Yankee Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm ET.

While both of these teams have World Series aspirations, they have both significantly underperformed in the early going.

The Braves currently sit in fourth in a solid N.L. East, but they showed signs of life over the weekend, winning two of three from the Cubs.

Sunday evening, they won 13-4 after hitting five home runs, including four in the first inning alone.

The Yankees, on the other hand, were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. In fact, they have now lost five games in a row heading into Tuesday.

The Yankees are the slight favorites playing at home. They are -120 to win while the Braves’ moneyline sits at +100. The Braves are +1.5 on the runline, and the over/under for total runs is nine.

Pitching Matchup

The Braves will send righty Charlie Morton (1-1, 4.76 ERA) to the mound. In his last start, a 6-5 loss to the Marlins, Morton went six innings allowing five runs and striking out nine. He will look to improve on that performance against the Yankees.

Speaking of New York, they will counter with Jameson Taillon (0-1, 7.56 ERA). Taillon last pitched in a 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays, where he allowed eight hits and five runs in just under four innings.

By The Numbers

Offensively, Atlanta has been the better team thus far. They currently rank fifth in the majors averaging 5.06 runs per game. The Yankees rank 25th averaging 3.67.

Defensively, the Yankees hold the edge. They rank 13th in runs allowed per game at 4.27. The Braves fall to 28th, allowing opponents to score 5.19 runs per game.

Braves May Have To Do It Without Star

Unfortunately for Braves’ fans, the win Sunday night over the Cubs came at a cost. In the win, Ronald Acuna Jr. had to leave the game with an injury.

An MRI revealed that Acuna suffered an abdominal strain. While he is just day-to-day, he will likely miss this one.

Luckily, first baseman Freddie Freeman is starting to heat up. After a dismal start, he is hitting .381/.567/.619 in the last week. On the season, he has five home runs and ten runs batted in.

The Braves would also like to get Marcell Ozuna going. He is currently hitting just .230/.329/.279 with just a single home run.

Yankees Trying To Shake Off Early Season Woes

To say that the Yankees have started off poorly would be quite an understatement. In fact, at 5-10, they have the worst record in the American League. Still, at -130, they are the favorites to win the A.L. East and will hope to climb out of the cellar starting Tuesday.

Leading the team offensively thus far have been Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. They are tied for the team lead with four home runs apiece, and Stanton leads the team with twelve runs batted in. The problem is that Judge is hitting just .255 and Stanton a dismal .176.

They would also really like to get shortstop Gleyber Torres going offensively. He is hitting just .196/.317/.235 with no home runs and just a single run batted in.

Taking The Braves On The Runline

It is hard to get excited about either of these teams the way they have started the season. At least the Braves have shown some signs of life lately, though.

While missing Acuna will be a big blow, they still seem like the smarter bet, especially on the runline at +1.5.
