Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots Preview and Pick

Sunday evening features a matchup of AFC rivals as the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) will face off with the New England Patriots (3-5). The Patriots will host the game at Gillette Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.

The Ravens are one of the best teams in the league, but they find themselves in second place in the AFC North behind the undefeated Steelers. Last week, the Ravens were able to beat the Indianapolis Colts 24-10 and now have won four of their last five. On the season, they are undefeated when playing on the road.

In the debate between who was more important to the success of the Patriots, Bill Belichick or Tom Brady, the early returns seem to point to the latter. The Patriots have struggled mightily this season.

After winning two of their first three games, the Patriots seemed like they could potentially be a contender. They were able to squeak by the winless Jets last week 30-27 but had lost four in a row prior to that. It is odd to see the Patriots as such a mediocre team, but that is all they are right now.

The Ravens are the clear favorites in this one despite playing on the road. They are -320 to win while the Patriots sit at +260. The spread features the Patriots +6.5 while the over/under for total points is 43.5.

By The Numbers

Offensively, the Ravens have been the better of the two teams. They currently rank 7th in the NFL in scoring, averaging 28.4 points per game. The Patriots are 28th, averaging 20.8 points.

The Ravens are good on offense; they have been the best on defense. They rank atop the list in scoring defense, allowing just 17.8 points per game. The Patriots rank 12th allowing 24.2 points.

Baltimore Looks To Extend Road Winning Streak

The Baltimore Ravens have really played some good football, even when they have to go on the road. Coming into this game, they have won 10 in a row and are looking to extend that streak.

To do so, they will look to quarterback Lamar Jackson to lead the team on offense. Even though he has not played up to his 2019 MVP numbers, he has still been solid. He has thrown for 1,513 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also leads the team in rushing with 469 yards and another three scores.

Defensively, they are led by Patrick Queen (38 tackles), Yannick Ngakoue (5 sacks), and Marcus Peters (3 interceptions).

Patriots Look To Upset Ravens At Home

It has been several years since the Patriots have consistently been underdogs, especially playing at Gillette Stadium. Sunday night, they will look to show they are better than their recent performances and upset the Ravens.

Leading the way for New England under center has been Cam Newton. This season, he has thrown for 1,417 yards but only has mustered two touchdowns while throwing seven interceptions. He has also rushed 69 times for 314 yards and eight touchdowns.

Defensively, the Patriots are led by Adrian Philips (56 tackles), Chase Winovich (2.5 sacks), and J.C. Jackson (5 interceptions).

Taking Ravens To Win And Cover

The fact that it took the fourth quarter to beat the Jets, the worst team in the league, last week tells you all you need to know about how the Patriots are playing. While the Ravens have some things to still sort out on offense, they shouldn’t have any issues on either side of the ball with the Patriots.

I really anticipate the Ravens to not only win this one but win pretty handily. For that reason, the Ravens -6.5 seems like the right play to me.
