Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Betting Preview

Sunday Night Baseball features AL East division rivals as the Boston Red Sox (72-79) take on the New York Yankees (93-58) in the finale of a three-game series. New York will host this one at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:08 pm ET.

The Yankees have taken the first two games of this series, including a 7-5 win on Saturday. Lucas Luetge picked up the win in relief. Yankees’ sluggers hammered four home runs, including the 32nd of the season for Anthony Rizzo.

Boston’s John Schreiber picked up the loss in relief after giving up two runs in an inning of work. Triston Casas hit his fourth home run of the season, while Reese McGuire hit his third.

The Yankees are heavy favorites playing at home. They are -184 to win, while the Red Sox moneyline sits at +154. The runline features Boston +1.5 (-130), and the over/under for total runs is 8.5.

Red Sox Look To Avoid Sweep

After losing the first two games of the series, the Red Sox are trying to avoid the sweep in the finale on Sunday. Unfortunately for Boston fans, the club has gone just 35-42 on the road this season and have lost seven of their last 10.

On the mound for Boston will be righty Brayan Bello. In 11 games this season, he is 2-6 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.73 WHIP, and he has 47 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.

Bello has pitched well in his last two starts as he has given up just one earned run in a combined ten innings of work. Over that span, he has allowed 14 hits and struck out 11.

Keep an eye out for third baseman Rafael Devers in this one. In 11 career at bats against the Yankees’ Nestor Cortes, he is hitting .273 with two home runs and five runs batted in. Bobby Dalbec has also homered off the lefty.

Yankees Magic Number Down To Three

While the Yankees will likely finish second in the American League as a whole, they are closing in on an AL East title. Coming into play Sunday, their magic number sits at just three games to win the division.

Trying to get one game closer to winning the division will be lefty Nestor Cortes. On the season, he is 10-4 in 26 games, with a 2.67 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He has also struck out 146 in 145 innings.

In his last three games combined, Cortes has given up just four earned runs in a combined 14 innings. In that span, he has allowed ten hits and struck out 13.

All eyes will be on superstar Aaron Judge Sunday night. Sitting at 60 home runs on the season, he sits just one away from tying Roger Maris for the franchise record in home runs.

In 542 at bats, he is hitting .314/.420/.696 with an MLB-leading 60 home runs, 128 runs batted in, and 125 runs scored. He has also stolen 16 bases this season.

Take Yankees To Win And Cover

The Red Sox have lost the first two games of this series, and it will likely not get much better on Sunday. Coming into play, they have gone just 1-4 in their last five games overall, 4-11 in their last 15 road games, and they are winless in their last five against the Yankees.

For New York, they are 6-0 in their last six games, and they are an impressive 55-22 when playing at Yankee Stadium this season. Throw on top of that the fact that the Yankees have the clear advantage on the mound with Nestor Cortes going, and the Yankees are understandably the clear favorites.

Expect New York to not only win but don’t hesitate to take them at the -1.5 on the runline (+108) as well.
