Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers Game 6 Betting Preview

The tried and true cliche that a playoff series doesn’t truly start until a team loses at home will be put to the test yet again in Saturday’s Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers matchup. The home team has won every game so far in this series, which is why Carolina comes into this contest with a 3-2 lead.

The Rangers are on the brink of elimination here, but they know that Carolina is 0-5 in road games this postseason, also losing all three in Boston in the first round. Oddsmakers have taken note, setting New York as slight -115 favorites (Hurricanes -105). Is a Game 7 an inevitability at this point

Road Wins Have Eluded Carolina

You have to give the Hurricanes credit; they’ve defended their home ice well, breaking the 2-2 series tie with a 3-1 win on Thursday night. Vincent Trocheck had a shorthanded goal while Teuvo Teraveinen added a power play score to fuel the victory. Finding the back of the net three times was Carolina’s highest-scoring game this series.

Antti Raanta was great in net on Thursday but also only had to face 17 shots. The Rangers have scored just two goals in road games this series, but now the Hurricanes are back at Madison Square Garden, where they have lost 3-1 and 4-1 in Games 3 and 4, respectively.

Rangers Try to Force Game 7

The NHL loves a Game 7, and it seems like that’s where this series is headed. Carolina had to go to an elimination game with the Bruins in the first round before advancing 4-3, as did the Rangers, who came back from a 3-1 deficit with three straight wins against Pittsburgh.

One would think that fatigue may start setting in for both of these squads because that’s a lot of white knuckle hockey to be playing every other night.

The Rangers are in a good spot on Saturday night, back in front of a raucous crowd that has helped New York to a 32-10-5 record at the Garden this season. Igor Shesterkin stopped 73 of 75 shots in Games 3 and 4 at home, and he’ll be the focal point once again on Saturday. The Rangers absolutely have to get off more than the 17 shots they had on Thursday though as well.

Hurricanes/Rangers Betting Prediction

Game 6 seems like a formality at this point as we head to what should be an exciting elimination bout on Monday night. Carolina hasn’t gotten a win on the road yet this playoffs, and the Rangers were dominant in Games 3 and 4 at home, winning by a combined margin of 7-2.

There’s always a chance that the Rangers slip up here, and Carolina is priced at just -105 after being +106 and +107 in Games 3 and 4, which may point to something. Ultimately though, Shesterkin going to work on his own ice is the side to back in this spot.

Pick: Rangers -115
