By The Numbers

These have been the best two scoring teams in the NBA this season. Both teams are averaging 115.6 points per game.

Defensively, Utah has a huge edge. They rank seventh in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 105.1 points per game. The Hornets are statistically the worst defense in the NBA, allowing 116.6 points per game (118.4 on the road).

Hornets Look To Improve On The Road

The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the surprise teams early on in the NBA calendar. At 16-16, they sit tied for seventh in the East in terms of winning percentage (.500). However, one area that they hope to improve is their road play. While they are 8-4 at home, they are just 8-12 on the road. They will get another opportunity to pick up a road win Monday.

Second-year phenom LaMelo Ball leads the Hornets’ offense. The point guard is averaging 20.3 points per game on 42.7% shooting. He is also adding 7.6 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.

Miles Bridges and Gordon Hayward have also been solid for Charlotte. Bridges is averaging 19.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Not to be outdone, Hayward is averaging 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

Terry Rozier (16.9 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds) have also had good starts to the year.

Utah Trying To Keep Pace In The West

At 20-9 overall, the Utah Jazz sit in third in the Western Conference. Despite their early success, they still sit 3.5 games behind the Suns and Warriors in a loaded conference. On Monday, they will try to keep pace with the top two seeds as they welcome in the Hornets.

Leading the way for Utah this season has been forward Donovan Mitchell. On the season, Mitchell is averaging 25.2 points, 37 rebounds, five assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

Center Rudy Gobert has also had a fantastic start to the season as he is averaging a double-double per game. He is averaging 15.1 points and 14.8 rebounds per game. He is also chipping in with blocks averaging 2.3 per game.

Other major contributors include Bojan Bogdanovic (15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds), Jordan Clarkson (15 points, 3.2 rebounds), and Mike Conley (13.7 points, 5.5 assists). Conley is questionable for this contest.

Take Jazz to Win And Cover

The Hornets are a very talented offensive group, but as they showed Sunday night, their defense leaves something to be desired.

While they can get away with a poor defense most nights by outshooting their opponents, they will have a tough time against a Jazz team that ranks in the top ten in both scoring and defense. Throw on top of that the fact that this is a road game and the second of a back-to-back, and it feels like this could be one that the Jazz run away with.

Take Utah to both win and cover Monday night.
