Charlotte Hornets vs Brooklyn Nets Betting Preview

Sunday night features an Eastern Conference battle of playoff contenders as the Charlotte Hornets (38-36, 9th in East) take on the Brooklyn Nets (39-35, 8th in East). The Nets will host this one at the Barclays Center, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 pm ET.

Charlotte comes in having won four of their last five games. In their last victory, they took down the Utah Jazz at home 107-101.

In the win, Miles Bridges had a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball combined for 46 points in the victory.

Sunday’s game will be the second of a back-to-back for the Brooklyn Nets as they took down the Miami Heat 110-95 Saturday.

Kevin Durant had a game-high 23 points to go along with three rebounds and five assists. Seth Curry added 17 points while Andre Drummond had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nets are the favorites playing at home in this one. They are -280 to win while the Hornets’ moneyline sits at +230. The spread features Charlotte +6.5, and the over/under for total points is 237.5.

More Odds

Despite sitting in 8th, the Nets are the favorites to win the East at +270. The Hornets are +16000 to win the conference.

In terms of winning the NBA Finals, the Nets have the second-best odds at +500. The Hornets are +37000 to win it all.

By The Numbers

These are two of the best offenses in the game. Charlotte ranks fifth overall averaging 114.7 points per game (116.6 on the road). The Nets rank ninth, averaging 112.2 points (108.5 at home).

Defensively, it is Brooklyn with the edge. In terms of scoring defense, they rank 21st, allowing opponents an average of 112 points per game. The Hornets rank 27th, allowing 114.5 points.

Charlotte Looks To Stay Hot And Take Season Series

The Hornets have been red hot as of late. Not only have they won six of their last seven games, but they have also gone 5-2 against the spread in that span.

On Sunday, they will look to take down the Nets, a team they have split with in their first two games. Given they sit just a game back of the Nets, the Hornets will look to take the season series in this one.

Leading the Hornets on offense is small forward Miles Bridges. He is averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, 3.9 assists, and a steal per game.

The other major contributors for the Hornets are LaMelo Ball (19.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 1.5 steals), Terry Rozier (19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists), and Kelly Oubre Jr (15.4 points, four rebounds).

Nets Trying To Turn Around Fortunes At Home

For as dominant as the Brooklyn Nets appear to be on paper, they haven’t consistently played with the same dominance. They have especially struggled at home, where they are just 16-19 to this point.

Part of their home struggles was due to the COVID-19 protocols, which prevented Kyrie Irving from playing home games due to being unvaccinated. With those protocols having recently been changed, Irving can now suit up at the Barclays Center, and the Nets are hoping to turn around their home play as a result.

In the 20 games he has played in, Irving is the second-leading scorer for Brooklyn, averaging 28.5 points per game. He is also averaging 4.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.

The leading scorer for the Nets is Kevin Durant. This season, he is putting up 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.

Take The Hornets And The Points

All things considered, the Nets are the better of the two teams, but there are a couple of advantages that the Hornets have.

First, their offense is impeccable, and they can run with almost any team in the league offensively. Especially being spotted points, that gives them a lot of value to at least cover.

More importantly, the Nets will be playing their second game in as many days. Especially given they had to go up against a tough Heat team on Saturday, they may be dragging a bit in Sunday’s game.

It still won’t be surprising if the Nets end up winning, but expect this one to be pretty close throughout. For that reason, take the Hornets and the 6.5 points.
