Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

Sunday Night Football features a matchup of NFC North rivals, as the Chicago Bears (5-5) take on the Green Bay Packers (7-3). The Packers will play host for this matchup at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is at 8:20 P.M. Eastern.

Coming off of their bye week, the Chicago Bears are desperate for a win. After starting the season 5-1, they have lost four in a row and now sit at 5-5. Their most recent loss was a 19-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago. They will look to end their losing streak Sunday night.

At 7-3, the Packers are in firm control of the division and will be looking to extend it even further. Despite the strong season, Green Bay is also coming off of a loss as they were beaten 34-31 by the Indianapolis Colts in overtime. They will look to get back into the win column Sunday night.

As the home team, the Packers are the significant favorite. They are currently -420 to win while the Bears are +320. The spread features the Bears +8.5 while the over/under for total points is 44.

By The Numbers

Offensively, these two have been night and day in terms of their success. The Packers currently rank third overall in scoring, averaging 30.8 points per game. The Bears are at the opposite end of the table, ranking 31st while averaging just 19.1 points per game.

Defensively, it is the Bears who hold the advantage. Chicago currently ranks sixth in scoring defense, allowing a stingy 20.9 points per game to opponents. Green Bay ranks 17th overall, allowing 25.8 points per game.

Bears Hope To Break Losing Streak

The Chicago Bears went from contenders to pretenders in a hurry, but they can still salvage their season with a win over the Packers. Undoubtedly, their defense is playoff-caliber, but their offense has been absolutely abysmal.

Head coach Matt Nagy announced that it would be Mitch Trubisky getting the opportunity to get back under center Sunday night. As the starter to begin the season, Trubisky went for 560 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Unfortunately, Nick Foles was not any better, but the biggest problem has been the offensive line, which has allowed 25 sacks thus far this season.

The Bears will get their leading running back for this game in David Montgomery. He missed the last game due to a concussion. On the season, Montgomery has rushed for 472 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the stat leaders for the Bears have been Roquan Smith (70 tackles), Khalil Mack (6.5 sacks), and Tashaun Gipson (two interceptions). The Bears can steal a win if they can sustain quarterback pressure throughout the game.

Packers Look To Extend Division Lead

The Packers hold a comfortable lead two-game lead in the division. They can effectively clinch with a win Sunday night and will turn to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to do so.

On the season, Rodgers has thrown for 2,889 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. His go-to receiver has been Davante Adams, who has 68 receptions for 847 yards and 10 touchdowns.

On the ground, Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams have been a nice one-two combo. Jones is the lead back and has rushed for 534 yards and six touchdowns. Williams has gone for 336 yards and a score. Both of them also have over 200 yards receiving apiece and have combined for three receiving touchdowns.

Packers Win, But Can They Cover?

As good as the Bears’ defense is, their offense is downright anemic. I don’t see how they can keep up with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense. For that reason, I like the Packers to not only win, but to cover the big 8.5-point spread as well.

FREE PICK: Green Bay Packers (-8.5).
