Clemson Tigers at Duke Blue Devils Betting Pick
The Clemson Tigers at Duke Blue Devils will mix it up Monday night for the final game of the Week 1 slate in College Football. Clemson is coming off an 11-3 season last year, with an 8-0 ACC season.
The Tigers won the ACC title 39-10 over North Carolina. The Tigers fell 31-14 against the Tennesse Volunteers in the Orange Bowl.
For Duke, they went 9-4 a season ago. The Blue Devils went 5-3 in conference play in the first season for Mike Elko. The Blue Devils went to the Military Bowl and beat UCF 30-14.
The 9th-ranked Clemson Tigers start the season as a 12.5-point favorite on the road at home. The total for this game is listed at 55.5 points.
Blue Devils Looking for Big Early Upset
The Duke Blue Devils will return their junior quarterback, Riley Leonard. Leonard finished just shy of 3,000 passing yards and rushed for 699 yards. Leonard also threw 13 touchdowns.
His top targets were Jalon Calhoun, Jordan Moore, and Sahmir Hagans. All three of those guys are back this season. They combined for more than 1800 of those yards last season.
The running back spot goes to Jaylen Coleman, as Jaquez Moore will back him up. Moore was the third-best runner for the Blue Devils last season with 508 yards and five touchdowns. Jordan Waters was the top running back a season ago, with eight touchdowns on the ground.
The Blue Devils will likely see two transfers in the starting lineup defensively. Al Blades Jr. will get the nod on the left side, while Jeremiah Lewis should be the starting free safety.
Tigers Hoping to be Title Contender
DJ Uiagelelei was the leader on the offense a season ago, with 2,521 yards passing and 22 touchdowns. This season, it will be Cade Klubnix. He will have his top receiver, Antonio Williams, back from a season ago.
Williams finished with 56 receptions, 604 yards and four touchdowns. Davis Allen was one of the top touchdown guys a season ago, as well, with five touchdown receptions, but he is also gone from the team.
Will Shipley is back, though. The Tigers will give Shipley the ball early and often in 2023. Last season, he rushed 210 times for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Shipley has the chance to be one of the best running backs in College Football this season. The Tigers also return free safety Jayln Phillips. He was Second in tackles last season, with 74.
Thriller in Week One
There is no doubt that this game is going to be a thrilling one. The point spread being 12.5 points is too many. Duke is going to have a chance to win this game straight up at home. The Blue Devils have some guys returning that will be tough to slow down.
The Tigers better be on alert here, or a Week one loss will be killer for their national title hopes. Take Duke +12.5 in this game, and watch the moneyline.
