College Football Week 1 Kicks off on Thursday
College Football Week 1 Kicks off on Thursday
Saturday saw some action in College Football. Many declared that Week 0 of the season. Notre Dame took care of business against Navy, and USC smashed San Jose State along with a few other scores. But now we are ready to kick off Week 1 of the College Football season. We have games for five straight days up the season. Here are some of the highlights of the upcoming weekend, with the best games of each day:
Thursday, August 31st, 2023: Florida Gators at Utah Utes
The Gators will need offense if they want to keep up with the Utes. Graham Mertz is the starting quarterback for Florida. Utah is coming off a fantastic season last year and will be one of the top teams in the Pac-12. Look for Utah to run the ball down the Gators fine, along with moving the ball via the air as needed. Utah should not have a problem winning this game on Thursday night. Other notable games include NC State at UConn, Nebraska at Minnesota, Southern Utah at Arizona State
Friday September 1st, 2023: Louisville Cardinals at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Start right away with an Atlantic Coast Conference game. Neither the Cardinals or the Yellow Jackets are a team that should be in contention to win the conference. But starting the season with a conference foe is a big deal. The two teams will be the game of the night in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It’s the Cardinals and their pass attack against the Yellow Jackets and their ability to run the football. This should be a fun game with a more pro-Georgia crowd. Other notable games: Central Michigan at Michigan State, Miami OH at Miami, and Missouri State at Kansas.
Saturday September 2nd, 2023: West Virginia Mountaineers at Penn State Nittany Lions
The first Saturday in September. These two teams are geographic rivals, with not many miles separating the two. It’s the Big 12 against the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have high hopes for the 2023 season, but West Virginia has upset on their mind. If the Mountaineers want any chance, they must bring their ability to play defense. They will not be able to compete if this game moves to a shoot-out. Other notable games: Virginia at Tennessee, Colorado at TCU, Ohio State at Indiana, Nevada at USC, North Carolina at South Carolina.
Sunday September 3rd, 2023: LSU Tigers at Florida State Seminoles
The biggest game of the weekend will come on Sunday. This game will be played in Orlando on Sunday night. Brian Kelly and his Tigers feel they have a chance to compete for a national title. Florida State has a bunch of new athletes coming to town, and Jordan Travis is back as their starting quarterback. This is going to be a fun one to watch, as both teams are going to attack on offense and be quick defensively. Look for a fun game to start the College Football season! Other notable games: Northwestern at Rutgers and Oregon State at San Jose State.
Monday September 4th, 2023: Clemson Tigers at Duke Blue Devils
The final game of the Week 1 slate features a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference teams. The Clemson Tigers are with Florida State as one of the teams to beat in the conference. Duke is a team that can always spring off an upset. Look for Clemson to have a tough time on the road here, and a possible upset could be brewing in Week One. This will sneakily be one of the best games for the entire weekend of play. It’s the only game on Monday in College Football.
Enjoy the season and best of luck! We will have previews for various games throughout the season here!
