Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview

Wednesday will feature a battle of N.L. West foes as the Colorado Rockies (3-8) take on the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers (9-2). This will be the second game of a three-game set. Los Angeles will play host at Dodger Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 10:10 pm ET.

The Dodgers took the first game of the set on Tuesday. In the win, Trevor Bauer went seven innings, allowing just one hit, two walks, and striking out nine. Corey Seager, Max Muncy, Mookie Betts, and Chris Taylor all homered in the win.

In the loss, Antonio Senzatela couldn’t even make it through three innings, giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out two.

The Dodgers are the significant favorite playing at home. They are -290 to win while the Rockies’ moneyline is +235. The runline features Colorado +1.5, and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

The pitching matchup will feature two starters looking for their second win.

For the Rockies, it will be Jon Gray (1-0, 1.54 ERA) taking the bump. Gray has been solid to start the season. He limited the Dodgers to just a single run in his first start and gave up one run in just under seven innings against the Diamondbacks in his last start.

The Dodgers will send Dustin May to the mound Wednesday. This will be his first appearance in nine days. In his last start, a 10-3 win over Oakland on April 5, he went six innings allowing two hits, two walks, and struck out eight.

By The Numbers

Offensively, both of these teams are in the top ten in scoring. The Dodgers rank sixth, averaging 5.70 runs per game. The Rockies rank ninth, averaging 4.80 runs per game.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, are much better at keeping runs off the board. They rank fourth in runs allowed per game at 3.40. The Rockies fall to 19th, allowing five runs per game to opponents.

Rockies Have Their Hands Full In Loaded N.L. West

There weren’t too many people that thought Colorado was going to contend this season, evidenced by their +12000 odds to win the division, but having the defending champion Dodgers and the up-and-coming Padres in their division makes it almost impossible.

Still, the Rockies will battle teams on a nightly basis, and Wednesday will be no exception.

Leading the way offensively for Colorado this season has been second baseman, Ryan McMahon. In 40 at bats, he is hitting .300/.317/.725 with five home runs and nine runs batted in.

While he has been hot, the Rockies are hoping to get more production from some of their veterans, especially Charlie Blackmon (.171 average, one home run), Trevor Story (.267 average, no home runs), and C.J. Cron (.138 average, one home run).

Dodgers Look To Stay Hot

If there were any doubts that the Dodgers weren’t legitimate champions last season due to the shortened season, those doubts have been washed away by a 9-2 start by the Dodgers this season. On paper, L.A. continues to look like the most complete team in baseball as they are loaded both in their lineup and in their pitching staff.

To show the depth of the Dodgers’ offense, they have six players who have hit two home runs apiece, and that doesn’t even include the likes of Corey Seager or Cody Bellinger. This team can just wear on teams throughout the lineup.

Against Jon Gray, watch out for Max Muncy and Corey Seager. Muncy has two home runs and six runs batted in, and Seager has one home run, four runs batted in, and a .348 batting average.

Hard To Not Pick The Dodgers

Even though Jon Gray has had a strong start to the season, it is still hard to pick against the Dodgers. Dustin May would be the ace of many staffs, but he is the Dodgers’ fifth starter.

Plus, with a loaded lineup and a solid bullpen, it seems like a smart bet to take the Dodgers, and it probably wouldn’t be the worst bet to take them covering the 1.5 runline.
