Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants Betting Preview

Sunday Night Football returns with an exciting Week 1 matchup featuring two NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Both teams secured playoff berths last season and aim to replicate that success this year.

Dallas finished the previous season with a 12-5 record, including a 4-4 mark on the road. On the other hand, the Giants posted a 5-3-1 record at home and went 9-7-1 overall.

In the playoffs, the Giants triumphed over the Minnesota Vikings in the first round but were defeated by the eventual NFC Champion, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the subsequent game.

The Cowboys followed a similar path, conquering the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round but succumbing to the San Francisco 49ers. In this Sunday Night Football showdown, the Dallas Cowboys are favored with a -3.5-point spread against the Giants.

How Bout Them Cowboys?

The Dallas Cowboys are poised for a shift in their offensive approach after relying heavily on Ezekiel Elliott for several seasons. This upcoming season, the primary running back role will belong to Tony Pollard, but don’t be surprised to see Rico Dowdie and Deuce Vaughn getting opportunities as well. Despite serving as the backup running back last season, Pollard impressively surpassed 1,000 rushing yards and recorded nine touchdowns.

Dak Prescott, a familiar face, returns as the starting quarterback. However, there’s competition brewing as the Cowboys have signed Trey Lance as a backup, adding some pressure.

Prescott threw for 23 touchdowns in the previous season, but the 15 interceptions left a bitter taste for Dallas fans. Prescott has made a commitment to reduce that interception count in 2023.

The receiving corps retains the potent weapon of CeeDee Lamb, who finished 2022 as one of the league’s top receivers. He hauled in 107 passes for nearly 1,400 yards and notched nine touchdowns, solidifying his status as a key playmaker for the Cowboys.

Giants Led by Jones and Barkley

Heading into the 2023 season, there were uncertainties surrounding Saquon Barkley’s status with the New York Giants. However, they successfully agreed with the former Penn State star, securing him as their leading running back.

Barkley showcased his prowess by rushing for 1,312 yards and tallying ten touchdowns in the previous season. Providing support to Barkley in the backfield will be Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell.

At the helm, Daniel Jones retains his position as the starting quarterback. Jones demonstrated improvement in the previous season, displaying more effective passing and utilizing his mobility. He threw for 3,205 yards and added 708 rushing yards to his impressive stats. His passing game contributed 15 touchdowns, while he recorded seven touchdowns through rushing.

Jones will have a solid set of targets in Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, and Parris Campbell as he kicks off the season. The Giants also drafted Jalin Hyatt, a promising addition to watch throughout the season. Notably, Slayton led the team with 724 receiving yards last year.

Giants Upset Cowboys at Home

Look for Saquan Barkley to get off to a hot start to the 2023 season. Barkley and the Giants start the season with a big win at home. This sets the tone for the season, and New York grabs a home win.

Bet the New York Giants moneyline at +150 over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
