Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview

A battle for NFC East supremacy is on tap, as the Dallas Cowboys head to the East Coast to square off with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Lincoln Financial Field is going to be rowdy, as both teams come into the matchup at 7-7, tied for the top spot in the NFC East.

Every time one of these two teams looks dead on the water, the next week they look like Super Bowl champs. This division has been baffling but also very exciting.

Dallas is coming off a signature win against the Los Angeles Rams, one in which it dominated for the entire four quarters. The Eagles, while not a signature showing, are coming off a win against the Washington Redskins.

While neither team has been especially dominant or consistent this season, a division winner must arise. One of these two teams is going to the playoffs, and this matchup has everything to do with it. The Cowboys are favored by two points, with the over/under at 46.5.

Cowboy Up

Jerry Jones was quoted as saying that the win over the Rams was just what the doctor ordered. Whatever it was, the Cowboys need it to continue to make the playoffs. Dallas tore the Eagles apart at Jerry World in October by a final score of 37-10.

Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper owned that game and should match up even better in this one. Elliott had 111 yards on 22 carries, while Cooper had five grabs for 106 yards the last time these two teams faced off.

Dallas’ offense ranks seventh in the NFL, scoring 27 points per game. The run game ranks sixth, averaging 134. They’ve averaged 149.3 over the last three games.

The Cowboys’ passing attack is ranked second in the NFL behind the Bucs. They throw for 400 per game, which is important in this particular game because Philly’s run defense is well above average, but its passing defense is a different story.

America’s Bird

America’s Team these days is typically whoever is playing the Cowboys, and this week, the Eagles step up to the plate. Philly’s run defense ranks third in the league, giving up only 90.4 yards per game, and only 77.3 over the last three.

Elliott and the Cowboys offensive line have their work cut out for them on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Eagles’ 18th-ranked passing defense will have to face one of the more explosive offenses in the game.

Offensively, Philadelphia ranks 12th in the league, averaging 23.9 points per game, but it has put up 30.3 in their last three. The Eagles’ rushing attack ranks 11th in the league, while their passing attack ranks 16th. They’ve been very average on that side of the ball.

Since the breakout of running back Miles Sanders, the offense has looked much more dynamic. Sanders has 1,120 total yards in the season to go with his five touchdowns.

Loads on the Line

You can’t easily write this game off and bet the favorite, as there is too much on the line for Philadelphia to just lay down. However, the Cowboys have not only been the better team for most of the season, but they are also 8-6 against the spread this season, while Philly is a measly 5-9.

Only three teams in the NFL are worse against the spread than the Eagles, and it’s only going to get worse. The Cowboys win and lock up the NFC East in this one, covering the two-point spread with ease. Look for a high-scoring shootout.
