Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Preview

Western Conference foes will square off Tuesday night as the Dallas Mavericks (23-18) take on the Los Angeles Clippers (21-21). The Clippers will host this one at the Crypto.com Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 10:30 pm ET.

Dallas has been on a bit of a skid lately, losing two of their last three. On Sunday, they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-109. In the loss, Christian Wood led the Mavs with 27 points and 16 rebounds.

The Clippers have also been on a skid having lost six straight games. Their last win was back on December 27 against the Raptors. In their most recent loss, a 112-108 loss to the Hawks, Kawhi Leonard had a team-high 29 points.

The Clippers open as slight favorites at home. They are -135 to win, while the Mavericks’ moneyline sits at +125. The spread features Dallas as 2.5-point underdogs (-105), and the over/under for total points is 221.

Dallas Hopes To Have Doncic Back

In the Mavericks loss to the Thunder, they were playing a bit short-handed as they were missing their best player, Luka Doncic. He has been hampered by an ankle injury and is questionable for Tuesday’s contest.

If he is unable to go, that would be a brutal loss for the Mavericks. This season, Doncic is averaging 34 points, 8.8 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

The next highest scorer is forward Christian Wood. In 38 games (13 starts), he has averaged 18.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.

This season, the Mavericks rank 18th in the NBA in scoring, averaging 112.4 points per game (110.9 on the road). On defense, they rank sixth overall, allowing opponents just 111 points per game (114.1 away from Dallas).

While Dallas is just 7-12 on the road, they are 17-7 against the Western Conference. They will look to continue that trend Tuesday night.

Clippers Also Short-Handed, Trying To Break Losing Streak

With their current six-game slide, the Clippers have fallen to seventh in the Western Conference, 6.5 games out of first place. They will be trying to snap out of it at home, where they are 11-9 to this point.

Like the Mavericks, Los Angeles will be a little shorthanded Tuesday night. Both Paul George (hamstring) and Luke Kennard (calf) are out for this contest.

Losing George is especially brutal given that he is their leading scorer. In 30 games, he has averaged 23.7 points, to go along with 6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

With George out, Kawhi Leonard will try to pick up the slack. In just 18 games this season, Leonard has averaged 17.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

Overall, the Clippers’ offense has struggled. They rank 28th in the NBA, averaging just 109.1 points per game (105.2 at home). Their defense has been elite, though, as they rank fourth overall, allowing opponents just 110.2 points per game (105.3 at home).

Keep Your Eyes On The Actives And Inactive List

Looking At the trends, even though they have lost two of their last three, the Mavericks are still 8-2 in their last 10 overall. In their last seven on the road against the Clippers, they are 5-2 against the spread.

As for the Clippers, they are 0-5 both straight up and against the spread in their last five games. They are also 1-5 against the spread in their last six matchups against teams from the Western Conference.

This one will likely come down to the availability of Luke Doncic. If he is able to go, there is a lot to like about the Mavericks getting in the win column on the road (+125). If he isn’t, taking the Clippers to finally break their losing streak might be the right play (-135).
