Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers Betting Preview

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers Betting Preview
The first of three preseason games on Friday night in the National Football League will feature the Detroit Lions at the Carolina Panthers. The Detroit Lions are 1-1 in preseason play following their 25-7 loss to the Jaguars. Detroit won their first preseason game 21-16 over the New York Giants. For Carolina, they are 0-2 in the preseason. Carolina lost 27-0 to the Jets and then 21-19 to the Giants.
The Carolina Panthers are the favorites in this game. Carolina is listed at -4.5, while the Lions are +170 on the moneyline. The total for this game is listed at 37 points.
Panthers With New Blood
The new blood is quite interesting and exciting for the Carolina Panthers. Mainly talking on the offensive side of the ball with the additions of Bryce Young, the top pick in the draft, along with Miles Sanders and Adam Thielen. The reviews have been mixed through two preseason games for Young, but Carolina expects him to continue to get better as the season goes along.
Sanders missed some preseason time with a groin issue but is expected to play in Week 1. Thielen comes from Minnesota and hopes to become that workhorse he has been for years in Minnesota.
The Panthers have used Young sparingly so far in preseason action. Matt Corral has played time as well and leads with 197 passing yards. Shi Smith has seen some good preseason action as a potential receiver for the Panthers. He has caught five passes for 79 yards so far. The Panthers are also going to get a good look at Ole Miss receiver Jonathan Mingo. He was the 2nd round pick for the Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers will play in Atlanta for Week 1. In Week 2, the Panthers host Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints.
Detroit Looking to Bust Through
The Detroit Lions are looking to bust out this season and finally get through. The Lions are the pick for many to win the NFC North. Detroit will look different in the backfield as they moved on from DeAndre Swift and Jamaal Williams. Now, the Lions will feature former Alabama running back and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, along with former Bears workhorse David Montgomery.
Jameson Williams is suspended, and Amon-Ra St. Brown is questionable, so who comes through for Jared Goff in the receiving core is a major question for the Lions. Marvin Jones should lead the way, but the hope is the injury to St. Brown is short-lived. He is currently nursing an ankle injury. St. Brown played in the Pro Bowl a season ago and has 11 career touchdowns.
Great Game to Finish Preseason
We expect this to be a great game to finish the preseason schedule. Both the Lions and the Panthers are hungry for a big season. The Lions have a veteran quarterback, while the Panthers have a youngster who is looking to prove his value in this league.
Both teams are going to want to finish the preseason with a bang and be ready for the start of the regular season. In the end, the underdog is the bet to make here. We are going to take the Detroit Lions +4.5. This game will stay close, and the winner will only win by a few points. So, betting the underdog makes the most sense for Friday night.
