Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs Betting Pick
It’s the first game of the National Football League season on Thursday Night Football, as the Detroit Lions will take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Detroit Lions come into the game as a dark horse pick for many to reach the postseason in 2022.
The Lions went 9-8 season a year ago and finished second in the NFC North. The Lions were just a game out of reaching the postseason. The Lions went 2-1 during preseason play. Kansas City is, of course, the defending Super Bowl Champions. The Chiefs went 14-3 on the season and won the AFC West.
The Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs went 2-1 during preseason play as well. The Kansas City Chiefs are listed at -6.5 over the Lions. The Chiefs and Lions total is listed at 54 points.
Chiefs Looking to Continue Domination
The Kansas City Chiefs, during the preseason, lost at the Saints but then picked up wins in Week 2 and 3 at the Cardinals and with the Browns. The Chiefs start the season at home but then go on the road against the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars.
Kansas City got the last pick in the NFL Draft, and that went to defensive end Felx Anudike-Uzomah. He should get some looks and will help a Chiefs defense that is underrated. Underrated because of the offense the Chiefs produce. Kansas City has the connection of Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce.
That was the best combination in the league a season ago, with 1,338 receiving yards to the tight end. The Chiefs also have Marquez Valdes-Scantling returning to the offense.
The run game will go through Iriah Pacheo. He was the top running back a season ago with 83 yards and five touchdowns. The Chiefs also return Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon, who combined for nearly 600 yards a season ago.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions feel like they are prepared for this game and ready to show the league they are ready to compete in 2023. The Lions will host the Seahawks and Falcons in the next two weeks in an effort to get off to a great start.
The Lions will feature former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs at the starting running back spot. Detroit also added former Bears running back David Montgomery, as they let DeAndre Swift and Jamaal Williams go on.
The Lions also drafted Jack Campbell, an inside linebacker out of Iowa. Lastly, another Iowa guy – Sam LaPorta, will come over and give Detroit a big look at the tight end spot.
The Lions return Jared Goff, the signal caller from a season ago. Goff tossed for just shy of 4,500 yards a season ago. His top target, Amon-Ra St. Brown, is projected to have a big season after over 1,100 yards last season. St. Brown caught six touchdowns as well.
Tight end T.J. Hockenson is also projected to be a weapon for the offense. The 26-year-old had a lower back injury in training camp but is expected to play.
Chiefs/Lions Big Thursday Night Game
Well, here we go. The start of the National Football League season. Two teams with high hopes.
The Super Bowl champion always has a little bit of a hangover in the first game of the season. The Chiefs may start slow in this game. Detroit will certainly be ready to compete in this game.
It’s hard to imagine that the Kansas City Chiefs lose this game at home, but we are going to bet Detroit to cover the spread. The Lions +6.5, but the Kansas City Chiefs on the moneyline. Enjoy the game, and best of luck with the NFL betting!
