ESPN Announces Tom Brady Docuseries “Man in the Arena”

Just this past week, the ten-episode series “The Last Dance” finished airing on ESPN. It was a documentary that discussed Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, especially the 1998 championship team. With it being such a success, sports fans might see quite a few more like it in the future.
If anything, this series has boosted Michael Jordan’s status as the greatest of all time. People who were too young to live through his excellence in the 90’s got a chance to see how things unfolded.
Brian Windhorst, NBA Insider for ESPN, said he does believe that Jordan might have released this documentary strategically. “I do think part of the reason Jordan said ‘yes’ to this documentary…after Lebron won that title, was because maybe for the first time, there was possibly a threat to the throne,” said Windhorst.
Tom Brady
Next up is Tom Brady. ESPN has already announced there will be a nine-episode documentary on the legendary quarterback that is planned to be released in 2021.
It will be Tom Brady’s perspective of his postseason runs. So far, he has had six Super Bowl victories along with three defeats. Those numbers could change as no one knows how long he will stay in Tampa Bay.
“Through the series, we’re defining the key moments and challenges that were seemingly insurmountable, but through hard work and perseverance, became career-defining triumphs, in both victory and defeat,” Brady said.
Brady hasn’t been a quarterback who has released too much behind-the-scenes information, especially before his Facebook Watch docuseries, “Tom vs. Time.”
The Bill Belichick-coached team has always been one of the most private sports organizations around, even outside of team facilities. Experts believe that because of the secrecy surrounding this Patriots dynasty, there is sure to be a bounty of interesting storylines and information never before revealed.
“To have personal firsthand accounts and an athlete at Tom’s level who doesn’t often give firsthand accounts can add up to a remarkable series,” Connor Schell said. Schell is an executive with ESPN and one of the creators of the 30 for 30 series.
The 30 for 30 documentaries are nothing new, but fans haven’t seen many lengthy documentaries like the one on Jordan. Brady will join him in having a full inside look on his winning ways.
What to Look Out For
One of the key aspects to look forward to are the myths that often get debunked in these documentaries. In the case of Jordan’s, one was his “flu game,” which he says was actually food poisoning.
There’s no doubt there are many thoughts and hypotheses surrounding the events Tom Brady has been embroiled in. It will definitely be of interest to see what is said about some of the scandals that the Patriots were involved with.
One such scandal would be Deflate-gate. Does Brady have anything to say or add to the story? Also, what of his relationship with Belichick? What were the discussions he had like with him when he decided to sign with the Buccaneers?
After the documentary has aired, Brady will almost certainly experience a similar type of boost in credibility that Jordan did. Most already consider him the greatest of all time, especially after his heroic comeback in Superbowl LI against the Falcons. Once fans get an inside look into the man behind the legendary feats, his career will become that much more impressive.
