Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints Betting Preview

Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints (-3)
Sunday, September 27th, 2020
Mercedes Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Total: 53

The 2-0 Green Bay Packers hit the road on Sunday to take on the 1-1 New Orleans Saints. The Packers have looked strong early this season, scoring north of 40 points in both of their games. Aaron Rodgers has been his usual sharp self in the first two weeks, tossing six touchdowns against zero interceptions with a completion percentage of just under 68%.

The Saints enter Sunday’s meeting at 1-1, coming off of a road defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. The typically electric New Orleans offense hasn’t exactly been tame this season but it hasn’t been itself since losing superstar wide receiver Michael Thomas in week 1 to a high ankle sprain. Running back Alvin Kamara has been shouldering a heavy load, but Drew Brees could really use more of a contribution from Emmanuel Sanders who has just four receptions and 66 yards on the season thus far.

Green Bay Continues to Roll

The Packers are looking good behind Rodgers in winning their first two games of 2020. On the plus side for Green Bay is that both of their wins have come against division opponents in the Vikings and the Lions.

Receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) has been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday night’s tilt with New Orleans which is a huge blow for the Packers, Rodgers won’t have his favorite target as Adams has 17 receptions for 192 yards through the first two weeks.

The Packers are 2-0 against the spread on the year with both contests seeing the total also go ‘over.’ Dating back to last season, the Packers are 8-1 straight up in their last 9 games and 4-1 straight up in their last five games on the road.

New Orleans Saints Betting Preview

I have a growing concern with Kamara’s workload if he continues to see this many touches, but the RB has to shoulder the load with Thomas out. The next man up for the Saints at wide receiver is Tre’Quan Smith, who had seven targets in week two.

The Saints defense is going to have their hands full with Packers running back Aaron Jones but they might be up to task as they have been stout against the run so far this season. In week 2, New Orleans held Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to just over three yards per carry.

The Saints are 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 games and 13-4 straight up in those games. In their last 19 games at home, New Orleans is 14-5 straight up. The total has gone over in 5 of the last 6 games between these two teams when playing in New Orleans.

My Pick

This game becomes loses some luster with Adams and Thomas being out, but Brees vs. Rodgers is still must-see TV. The Saints didn’t look great against the Raiders on Monday, but the new Las Vegas team might be better than we anticipated – especially at home.

If New Orleans can slow down Jones, I like them to win and cover the 3-point spread. It will be interesting to see the Packers on the road without their star receiver so give me the Saints at home to cover and I’ll take the over.
