Kansas Jayhawks at Oklahoma State Cowboys Betting Preview

The No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks will look to secure their fifth straight win on Monday night when they pay a visit to the Oklahoma City Cowboys. On the road, Kansas is an eight-point favorite, with an over/under of 134 points.

The Cowboys used the Big 12-SEC Challenge over the weekend to put an end to a six-game losing streak that coincided with the start of conference play. Oklahoma State took down former Big 12 member Texas A&M on the road, although it has still lost nine of its last 12 games overall. The Cowboys are now 10-9 and in desperate need of an immediate turnaround.

Meanwhile, Kansas was also victorious in the Big 12-SEC Challenge, knocking off Tennessee in a close 74-68 game. The Jayhawks have now won four in a row and seven of their last eight games. At the moment, Kansas is 16-3 overall and deserving of its top 5 ranking. However, the Jayhawks still trail top-ranked Baylor by a game in the Big 12 standings.

Two-Man Crew

Kansas’ success this season is largely a result of having one of the best inside-outside tandems in college basketball. On the perimeter, sophomore Devon Dotson is leading the way with 18.4 points per game. He has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five games despite struggling in a loss to Baylor.

On the inside, Udoka Azubuike is playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 13 points and close to 10 rebounds per game.

Of course, the Jayhawks have a solid supporting cast as well. Ochai Agbaji is easy to overlook on a team with Dotson and Azubuike, but he’s averaging over 10 points per game. Agbaji and Isaiah Moss, in particular, have been key outside shooters for Kansas.

Despite being a great scorer, Dotson isn’t always a reliable three-point shooter, making players like Agbaji and Moss critical to the team’s success this season.

Scoring Woes

On the season, Oklahoma State is one of the worst offensive teams in the country, ranking outside the top 300 nationally in points per game. The Cowboys only have five players who average at least eight points per game, but nobody who averages better than the 12 points per game that Lindy Waters III scores every time out.

On the bright side, Oklahoma State’s offense has picked up in the team’s last two games. The Cowboys had six double-digit scorers in a recent loss to Iowa State and five double-digit scorers in the win over Texas A&M.

However, defense remains an important part of Oklahoma State’s success, given its offensive struggles this season. The Cowboys tend to be physical on the defensive end and are capable of creating turnovers that can help jumpstart their offense.

Rock Chalk Road Hawks

The Jayhawks should be able to refocus after getting a scare from Tennessee over the weekend. More importantly, the suspensions of Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack didn’t have a huge impact on Kansas.

Oklahoma State isn’t likely to have an answer for Dotson and Azubuike on either end of the floor, which is why you should bet on the Jayhawks covering the eight-point spread on the road.
