Memphis Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview

Tuesday night features a battle of the AAC versus the SEC as the Memphis Tigers (8-2) take on the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1). The Crimson Tide will host this one at Coleman Coliseum, with tipoff scheduled for 9:00 pm ET.

Memphis comes into this game having won six games in a row, including a 82-73 win over No. 19 Auburn on Saturday. In the victory, guard Kendric Davis led all scorers with 27 points, to go along with nine rebounds and six assists.

For Alabama, they have won three in a row, including an upset of then No. 1 Houston 71-65 over the weekend. Noah Clowney led the Crimson Tide with a double-double, putting up 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Crimson Tide are the favorites in this one playing at home. They are -320 to win, while the Tigers’ moneyline sits at +255. The spread features Memphis +7.5 (-112), and the over/under for total points is 148.5.

Tigers’ Defense Looks To Lock It Down

For Memphis to have success in this one, their defense is going to have to step up. To this point, they rank 75th in the nation, allowing 65.2 points per game (68.2 on the road).

The Tigers have been solid at creating turnovers this year, something they hope to keep going against the Crimson Tide. To date, their opponents are averaging 15.3 turnovers per game.

On the offensive side, the Tigers rank 95th in the nation, averaging 74.4 points per game. Leading the way for Memphis is guard Kendric Davis and forward DeAndre Williams. For Davis, he leads the team in scoring averaging 18.4 points on 38.8% shooting. He is also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

For Williams, he is averaging 14.3 points on 56.4% shooting. He is also averaging 7.7 rebounds, three assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.

Aside from these two, the scoring is a little more sparse, with Alex Lomax (8.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists) and Keonte Kennedy (8.1 points, 2.8 rebounds) being the next leading scorers.

Alabama Looks To Avoid Letdown

After their stunning victory over Houston over the weekend, the Crimson Tide are trying to avoid the dreaded letdown game after such an emotional victory. Head coach Nate Oats will try to have his guys focused as they host a dangerous Tigers team.

Alabama has one of the best offenses in the nation as they currently rank 12th, averaging 82.1 points per game (88 at home). Leading the Crimson Tide on offense is freshman forward Brandon Miller. In nine games, he is averaging 17.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

Other contributors for Alabama include Mark Sears (14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists), Noah Clowney (9.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocks), and Jaden Bradley (8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, three assists).

On the defensive side, Alabama has struggled a bit more. They rank 128th overall in scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of 68.1 points per game (60 at home).

Take Alabama To Win, Memphis To Cover

Looking at the trends, Memphis has gone 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 games overall, and they are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against the SEC. Of note, in their last 11 games played on a Tuesday, they are 10-1 straight up.

For Alabama, they are 8-1 in their last nine games and 7-1 in their last eight home games. While they are 6-3 against the spread in their last nine games overall, they are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six against AAC teams.

Playing at home, where they are 4-0 this season, the Crimson Tide are a good bet to win this one. However, at +7.5, there is a lot of value in Memphis in this one.

Especially coming off of their emotional win over the weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Alabama a little flat to start this one. For that reason, take Memphis to keep this one close throughout and take them and the points.

Take the Tigers +7.5 (-112).
