Miami Marlins at San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

It will be a clash of National League foes Sunday as the Miami Marlins (9-11) and the San Francisco Giants (13-8) finish their four-game series. San Francisco will host this one at Oracle Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05 pm ET.

After dropping the first two games, the Marlins knew that if they wanted any chance at a split, they would have to figure out a way to win Saturday. It took them until the ninth inning to do it, but they finally figured it out.

Trailing 2-1 entering the ninth, the Marlins put up four runs and won 5-2. In the win, both Jon Berti and Jesus Aguilar homered for the Marlins.

Unfortunately for Giants fans, the ninth inning ruined an amazing outing from starter Kevin Gausman. He went eight innings, allowing just a single run and striking out 11. Mike Yastrzemski hit his fourth home run in the game.

Pitching Matchup

The Marlins had still not named their starter for Sunday’s game at the time of this writing, so it’s possible they could go with a bullpen game for the series finale.

San Francisco is going with Logan Webb (0-1, 5.87 ERA) on Sunday. In his last start, a 10-7 win over the Phillies, Webb went just four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out four. He will look to improve on this outing Sunday.

By The Numbers

Offensively, Miami has been the stronger of the two teams this season. They currently rank 19th in the league in scoring, averaging 4.05 runs per game. The Giants rank 25th, averaging 3.70 runs per game.

Defensively, San Francisco has been the best team in baseball. In terms of runs allowed per game, the Giants rank tops, allowing just 3.10 runs to opponents. Miami ranks ninth, allowing 4.11 runs.

Miami Hopes To Keep Momentum Going

Whenever you can get a come-from-behind victory, it is huge. When you finally break through for four runs in the very last inning, it can impact the momentum and confidence of a team. Miami hopes there is a carryover effect Sunday.

Leading the offense for the Marlins have been Jazz Chisholm Jr., Adam Duvall and Jesus Aguilar. Chisholm is currently hitting .293/.391/.586 with four home runs, seven runs batted in and four stolen bases.

Chisholm is tied for the team lead in home runs with Duvall. While he is hitting just .200/.235/.462, Duvall does have four home runs and 14 runs batted in.

Leading the way in runs batted in is Aguilar. The slugging first baseman has 15 RBI and is hitting .281/.368/.438.

Can Giants Bounce Back From Tough Loss?

Especially with how well Gausman pitched Saturday, it was a brutal ending to the third game of a series that San Francisco had already taken the first two of. Now, the Giants have to regroup behind Webb to try to win the series.

Thus far, the Giants have quietly been really solid. At 13-8, they are sandwiched in between the Dodgers and Padres for tops in the NL West.

Offensively, the team has been led by veterans Evan Longoria, Buster Posey and Yastrzemski. All three of them have four home runs apiece, with Longoria tied for the team lead in runs batted in with nine.

Giants Can Salvage Series

This one comes down to Webb. After having a terrific spring, he has sputtered to start the regular season. If he can show even a glimpse of what we saw in the spring, though, the Giants should be able to bounce back and win the series.

That is especially true since there is uncertainty as to who will take the ball for the Marlins Sunday. With so many uncertainties surrounding the Marlins, the safe bet seems to be on the Giants on the moneyline.
