NCAA Football News and Notes

Tavien Feaster has decided to transfer, and he will be going to a rival for his final season. After playing for Clemson his first three seasons, he will be going to South Carolina this upcoming season. As a graduate transfer, Feaster will be eligible to play right away. Last season, Feaster rushed 78 times for 440 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 11 receptions for 71 yards.
His best season was his sophomore season in 2017 when he rushed for 669 yards and seven touchdowns on 107 attempts as well as catching 12 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown. Regardless, it will give South Carolina another prominent weapon in the backfield while stealing a little bit of thunder from their rivals.
While it has other weapons in its backfield, South Carolina doesn’t quite have anyone with the explosiveness that Feaster has. After playing more of a reserve role in Clemson, Feaster could be in store for a much larger workload with the Gamecocks.
Kentucky Safety To Miss Season
You never like to hear that a college player gets injured, but when it knocks them out for the whole season, it is even more disheartening. For the Kentucky Wildcats, that is exactly the news that they got for safety Davonte Robinson, who will miss the season after a torn quadriceps muscle. This is a big blow for the Wildcats, who now have to replace four defensive backs from last season. Last season, Robinson had 42 tackles for the team, which was sixth-most for Kentucky. Hoping for a healthy and fast recovery, the Wildcats will have to move in a different direction for this upcoming season.
UConn Pays Big Bucks To Leave Conference
It was announced a while ago that UConn was planning to leave the American Athletic Conference to head back to the Big East, but now we know the cost. In order to leave the AAC, the University of Connecticut will be paying $17 million to the conference. The leave won’t go into effect until after the 2019-20 sports seasons, but once it does, all sports except for football will be heading to the Big East.
For football, the Big East doesn’t offer that sport, meaning it had to find an alternative route. While many discussions existed, including having just football remain in the AAC, it eventually was decided that the football program would be an independent (similar to what Notre Dame is). While the football team has not been good lately, this gives it a little more flexibility in its scheduling, which could be beneficial to the morale of the program.
Alabama Linebacker Enters Transfer Portal
It appears that Alabama’s defensive depth is taking a bit of a hit as linebacker Eyabi Anoma has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. After originally entering his name in the portal in February, Anoma had decided to remove it and stay at Alabama. Despite that, he did not enroll in classes for the fall and looks to be on his way out after once again entering his name into the portal.
Anoma was a five-star recruit in 2018. In his freshman year, he accrued nine total tackles, including two for a loss. Going into his sophomore year, it was expected that Anoma could have played a more significant role in Nick Saban’s defense, but it appears that he will be taking his defensive abilities to a new school.
SEC, Big Ten Powerhouses Schedule Future Series
It’s hard to believe that in the history of their universities that Alabama and Wisconsin have only met head-to-head twice, but that is exactly the case. At a minimum, that number will be doubled by the end of 2025. The two programs agreed to a home-and-home non-conference matchup in 2024 (in Wisconsin) and in 2025 (in Alabama). While it is not often that the SEC and Big Ten matchup in non-conference play, these are two matchups that will get fans very excited, even if they do have to wait a handful of years.
Pac-12 To Moves Title Game To Las Vegas
After five years of the Pac-12 Conference championship game being held at Levi’s Stadium in California, the game has a new home. Conference commissioner Larry Scott made the announcement this past week that in 2020 and 2021 the championship game will be held in Las Vegas. More specifically, it will be held at the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders.
While Levi’s Stadium did the conference well, this new venue gives more opportunities, particularly the fact that Las Vegas is already a tourist destination, making intrigue in the game enhanced as well as making travel to the game easier for fans. For people in Las Vegas, they have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Raiders, and now they will have one more thing to be excited for.
