NCAA Tournament: TCU Horned Frogs vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

The last game of the weekend kicks off late Sunday night as the No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs (22-12) take on the No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs (29-5). This game will be played at Ball Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 9:40 pm ET.

Gonzaga is the favorite in this one. They are -200 to win, while the Horned Frogs’ moneyline sits at +164. The spread features TCU +4.5 (-110), and the over/under for total points is 156.5.

Horned Frogs Look To Defense To Shutdown Tough Gonzaga Team

While TCU was able to pick up a 72-70 win over No. 11 Arizona State on Friday, they are going to have to step it up against one of the best offenses in the nation in Gonzaga on Sunday. This season, the Horned Frogs rank 105th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of 68 points per game to opponents.

In their win over Arizona State, TCU was led by guard Mike Miles Jr, who had 26 points, four rebounds, and three assists. This season, he led the Horned Frogs averaging 17.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Other contributors Friday night included Charles O’Bannon Jr (15 point, four rebounds), Damion Baugh (11 points, six rebounds, eight assists), and JaKobe Coles (11 points, five rebounds).

As a unit, the Horned Frogs rank 72nd overall in scoring, averaging 75.1 points per game (70.7 per game over their last three).

High Octane Gonzaga Offense Looks To Roll Sunday Night

There isn’t a team in the nation that scores as well as Gonzaga. On the season, they rank first overall in scoring, averaging 86.4 points per game.

Friday night, they didn’t quite hit their average, but they still got the win 82-70 over No. 14 Grand Canyon. In the win, guard Julian Strawther had a game-high 28 points, while also adding 10 rebounds and an assist.

Forward Drew Timme was also stellar, scoring 21 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. The only other scorer with double digits was Anton Watson, who had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Defensive play has been a struggle for the Bulldogs this season, which was on full display as they allowed Grand Canyon 70 points. Gonzaga ranks 259th in the nation, allowing an average of 73.8 points per game. Still, they know their strengths, and that is to outscore their opponents on a nightly basis.

Take TCU And The Points

Coming into this one, TCU is 4-2 in their last six games, but they are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five. Against West Coast Conference opponents, they are 0-5 against the spread in their last five.

For the Bulldogs, they are undefeated in their last 10 games, and they are 4-2 against the spread in their last six contests. In their last 20 games against Big 12 teams, they are 15-5.

Gonzaga was able to put up 82 on Friday night, but they will be facing a tougher defense Sunday night with TCU.

Furthermore, their porous defense will have their hands full with a decent Horned Frogs’ offense.

Especially if they are hot, Gonzaga will be tough to beat, but don’t be surprised if TCU keeps this one close throughout. For that reason, take the Horned Frogs and the 4.5 points (-110).
