New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview

It seems that no one wants to represent the NFC East in the playoffs in 2019. It looked like Dallas was a lock to win the division, head and shoulders above the opposition. Now, with a loss to the Bears on Thursday Night Football, the Cowboys dropped to 6-7, and the division title is back in play, with pretty much the entire division still in the hunt. So when the 5-7 Eagles host the 2-10 Giants Monday, Philadelphia could knot up the NFC East with Dallas at 6-7.

The Giants have little left to play for other than pride and are the reason only “most” of the division is still in the hunt. They haven’t secured a victory since beating the Buccaneers and Redskins back to back in Weeks 3 and 4. The Eagles have lost three straight, and while the first two losses were painful, they were acceptable since they came against the Patriots and the Seahawks. The third loss, against the Dolphins, is what made Eagles fans start burning jerseys. The Eagles are favored by 9 with the over/under set at 44.5.

The Little Giants

The Giants will go on a nostalgic ride on Monday Night Football this week, as Eli Manning will return as their starter due to a Daniel Jones injury. Manning is 0-2 in his two starts this season, throwing two interceptions and two touchdowns. Of course, as poor as the Giants’ offensive line and defense are, I’m not sure how much that matters.

The Giants offense ranks 25th in total yards, while their defense gives up the 29th most points per game in the league. The highlight of the squad has been running back Saquon Barkley, who has 835 yards from scrimmage but only three touchdowns on the season. Between Barkley’s injury, which kept him out a few games, and the Giants having been forced to throw a lot, this hasn’t been the signature Barkley we saw a year ago.

Wentz Getting Burned

The Eagles offense ranks 20th in the NFL in total yards, while their defense ranks 14th in total yards allowed. Carson Wentz hasn’t had as bad of a season as Philadelphia fans make it out to be, completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 2,840 yards and 20 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Wentz has been sacked on 6.5 percent of his dropbacks this season.

Philadelphia is ranked 24th in the NFL, averaging only 5.1 yards per play. The division rival Cowboys rank first in the NFL, averaging 6.5 per play. The Eagles’ passing offense ranks 18th in the NFL, while their rushing offense ranks 13th. Their rushing defense only allows 91 yards per game, good for third in the league, while their passing defense ranks 17th, giving up just over 241 yards per game.

The Middling East

The NFC East has been far from great in 2019, but the Eagles will attempt to tie things up at the top Monday night. Neither of these teams has trended well this season, as both are 4-8 against the spread. Philadelphia is only 2-4 at home against the line this season. Nevertheless, Philly beats up on the Giants Monday night and covers with ease.
