New York Giants at Washington Football Team Betting Preview

Week 2 opens up Thursday night with an NFC East showdown as the New York Giants (0-1) take on the Washington Football Team (0-1). Washington will host this one at FedEx Field, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.

Both of these teams lost their Week 1 matchup despite both playing as the home team. The Giants lost 27-13 to the Denver Broncos. For Washington, they lost 20-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers.

With Philadelphia being the lone NFC East team to win in Week 1, both of these teams will look to get back on track as they compete in a division that is mostly up for grabs.

Washington is the favorite playing at home. They are -180 to win while the Giants’ moneyline sits at +152. The spread features the Giants +3 (-102), and the over/under for total points is 40.5.

More Odds

Washington has the second-best odds to win the NFC East at +340. The Giants have the worst odds, but they are still +500 to take the division.

In terms of the Super Bowl, the Washington Football Team is +7000 to win it all this year. New York is +10000 to win Super Bowl LVI.

By The Numbers

New York is just 1-4 in their last five games; however, they are 5-0 in their last five games against Washington. In their last 11 road games, they are 9-2 against the spread.

Like New York, Washington is 1-4 in their last five games. In fact, they have struggled in the month of September as they are 1-6 in their last seven games in the month.

Giants Need To Improve In All Aspects

It was certainly a rough week for the Giants in the opening week. Not only did their offense struggle, but their defense only forced one punt through the first three-quarters of play.

The Giants’ defense allowed 264 yards and two scores through the air while allowing Denver 165 yards on the ground and another score. If they want any chance of winning Thursday, it has to start on the defensive side.

Offensively, it is Daniel Jones leading the way under center. He played adequately for the Giants as he threw for 267 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 27 yards and another score.

The biggest problem, though, was Jones led the team in rushing yards. Saquon Barkley had just 26 yards on ten rushes.

Washington Turns To Heinicke After Fitzpatrick Injury

Unfortunately for Washington fans, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s debut was anything but stellar. In fact, he didn’t even make it through an entire week as he suffered a hip injury. This injury has forced him to the injured reserve, and Tyler Heinicke now takes over the center.

After relieving Fitzpatrick last week, Heinicke threw for 122 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers. He also rushed three times for 17 yards.

On the ground, Antonio Gibson leads the way. In the opener, he rushed 20 times for 90 yards.

Defensively, Montez Sweat and Jonathan Allen both had a sack while William Jackson III picked up an interception.

Take The Giants And The Points

This one will come down to how well the Giants can stop the run. With a new quarterback on a short week, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Washington focus on Gibson and the run game.

If New York lets Gibson run rampant, it could be a long night for Giants’ fans.

Expect the Giants to be prepared, though, as their defensive scheme will likely be organized to make Heinicke try to beat them with his arm.

In what should be a tight game, take the points. In this case, that means taking New York +3.
