New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts Betting Preview
Thursday Night Football features an AFC matchup of East versus South as the New York Jets (2-5) square off with the Indianapolis Colts (3-5). The Colts will host this one at Lucas Oil Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.
After losing two in a row, the Jets bounced back last Sunday with a 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. In the victory, Mike White threw for 405 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
For the Colts, they currently sit in second place in the AFC South, but they trail the Tennessee Titans by three games in the standings.
It didn’t help that last week they lost to the Titans 34-31 in overtime. In the loss, Carson Wentz threw for 231 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. On the ground, Jonathan Taylor rushed for 70 yards and another score.
The Colts are the heavy favorites playing at home. They are -550 to win while the Jets’ moneyline sits at +410. The spread features New York +10.5 (-112), and the over/under for total points is 45.5.
More Odds
Currently, the Colts have the second-best odds of winning the AFC South at +950. The Jets have the worst odds of winning the AFC East at +95000.
Both of these teams are longshots to win the Super Bowl. The Colts are +9000 to win it all, and the Jets are +100000.
By The Numbers
To say it has been a rough couple of seasons for the Jets would be a bit of an understatement. In their last 20 games, they are just 4-16. Against the spread, the Jets are just 2-6 in their last eight games.
In their last five games, the Indianapolis Colts are 3-2 overall; however, they are 4-1 against the spread in that time. In their last ten games against the Jets, the over has hit in seven of their contests.
Jets Hope To Make It Back-To-Back Upsets
When it comes to debuts, it doesn’t get much better than last week for quarterback Mike White, who was making his first start at quarterback after the injury to Zach Wilson. With momentum on his side, he and the Jets are hoping to make it two straight upsets in a row.
To do so, White will need to be efficient as he was last week when he went 37 for 45 passing and utilized all of his weapons.
Probably the most impressive weapon from last week was running back Michael Carter. Not only did he have 77 yards rushing and a touchdown, but he also had nine receptions for 95 yards through the air.
In fact, there were eight different players with two or more receptions and four with five or more. If White can spread the offense like that again, they may have a shot at taking down the Colts.
On defense, the Jets rank 30th, allowing 29.4 points per game (31.5 on the road).
Colts Feeling A Sense Of Urgency
Just eight games into the season, the Colts already find themselves three games back in the division and have lost both of their games to the Titans this year. While the injury to Titans’ running back Derrick Henry might open a small door for the Colts, they have to start playing better in a hurry if they want any chance of a playoff spot.
Carson Wentz is leading the offense under center for the Colts. This season, he has thrown for 1,926 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also been sacked 16 times and has fumbled three times (one fumble lost).
Through the air, Michael Pittman Jr. has been his most reliable receiver. To date, Pittman has 45 receptions for 594 yards and four touchdowns.
The most deadly weapon, though, is running back Jonathan Taylor. He has 649 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground. Through the air, he is the Colts’ second-leading receiver with 21 receptions for 265 yards and another score.
The Colts rank 14th in scoring defense, allowing 22.9 points per game.
Taking The Jets And The Points
This very well could be optimistic thinking, but Mike White really impressed for the Jets in a shocking upset over the Bengals last week.
It will be interesting to see how the Colts respond to their heartbreaking loss last week to the Titans, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see there be a carryover effect, especially in a short week.
For that reason, there is a lot of value in the Jets and the 10.5 points.
