New York Mets at New York Yankees Betting Preview

Tuesday features a battle of the Big Apple as the New York Mets (79-45) take on the New York Yankees (75-48) in the finale of a two-game Subway Series. The “Bronx Bombers” will host this one at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm ET.

In the opening game Monday, the Yankees prevailed by a score of four to two. Domingo German picked up the win, going 6.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.

Aaron Judge led the way for the offense going two for four with a solo home run off of Max Scherzer. Andrew Benintendi and Isaiah Kiner-Falefa also had two hits apiece in the victory.

Scherzer took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work. He walked one while striking out just three in the defeat.

Offensively, Daniel Vogelbach hit his 16th home run of the season, a two-run blast in the seventh inning. Aside from that hit, though, the Mets managed just three other hits on the night.

The Yankees are the favorites playing at home on Tuesday. They are -124 to win while the Mets’ moneyline sits at +106. The runline features the Mets’ +1.5 (-194), and the over/under for total runs is 8.5.

Mets Trying To Fend Off Braves In NL East

Despite having the second-best record in all of baseball, the Mets find themselves in a battle in the NL East. Currently leading the Braves by just three games, New York is trying to create some separation in the division.

The Mets will turn to righty Taijuan Walker to try to secure a split in the series on Tuesday. In 21 games this season, he is 10-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, and he has 85 strikeouts in 112.1 innings.

In his last outing, Walker lasted just two innings due to a slight disc bulge in his lower back, knocking him out of the game. In his start prior to that, he went six innings, allowing two runs in a win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Offensively, the Mets have been led by first baseman Pete Alonso this season. In 459 at bats, he is hitting .268/.347/.514 with a team-leading 30 home runs and 102 runs batted in. He has also scored 70 runs on the season.

Aside from Alonso, both Francisco Lindor (.273 avg, 21 HR, 84 RBI, 80 R, 13 SB) and Starling Marte (.293 avg, 14 HR, 55 RBI, 71 R, 17 SB) have had sensational seasons.

Yankees Slowly Trying To Turn Around Slump

Ever since the All-Star break, it has been a struggle for the New York Yankees to find any sort of consistency. They have lost six of their last ten and have seemed like a shell of the team they were in the first half. Still, having won two games in a row, they are trying to build some momentum as the season winds down.

Taking the ball for the Yankees Tuesday will be righty Frankie Montas. In 22 games this season, between the A’s and the Yankees, he is 4-10 with a 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and has 117 strikeouts in 118.2 innings.

Montas did struggle in his last outing as he gave up six earned runs in six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays in a loss.

Keep an eye on Aaron Judge in Tuesday’s game. Not only did he homer Monday, but in his career against Taijuan Walker, he is hitting .333 in nine at bats with three home runs and four runs batted in.

Marin Gonzalez, Josh Donaldson, Aaron Hicks, Kyle Higashioka, and Anthony Rizzo have also homered off of Walker in their careers.

Take Yankees To Win At Home

Both of these teams have shown all season that they are capable of dominating a game, but there are just a few things to like about the Yankees in Tuesday’s game.

First, they get home field advantage in this one. With Monday’s win, they are now an impressive 43-20 when playing at Yankee Stadium.

Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if there are any lingering issues with Taijuan Walker. After leaving his last start due to a back injury, this is a tough matchup if you aren’t 100%. This was originally supposed to be Jacob deGrom’s game, so the Yankees might have caught a break facing Walker.

Lastly, the Yankees’ hitters have had success in their careers against Walker, so even if he is at full strength, the Yankees have to feel confident coming into this one.

Admittedly, this could go either way, but the smart money is to take the Yankees winning at home (-124).
