NFL Aiming To Hire Vice President Of Sports Betting

If you’re looking for a new job, the NFL is looking to fully legitimize itself with the world of sports betting. The next step in doing so, apparently, is hiring a vice president with a special focus on the wagering that made the game so popular in the first place.

With 20 states now having fully functioning legalized sports betting, the league is looking to make a move that would shield itself from any wrongdoing of outsiders. This way, they’re fully covered when it comes to matters of integrity.

According to the official job listing, the incoming VP will join forces with the NFL’s media department on the “distribution of content for gaming purposes and the integration of gaming products into the NFL’s platforms.” The job description also calls for a “deep understanding” of sports betting and the surrounding backgrounds of gaming.

In addition, NFL Chief Strategy and Growth Officer Christopher Halpin would be the one that this new VP reports to.

The league laid out four specific qualities/goals in the search for its new leader in this area:

  • Protecting the integrity of the game
  • Making strides in promoting the NFL’s brand and reputation
  • Drive fan engagement globally
  • Increase the value of the NFL’s data & IP

It’s no secret that gambling and the NFL have been synonymous with one another for quite some time. However, in recent years, the league has begun to be more transparent in showing its support of it in the public eye.

Over the last few years, recent gaming partners like FanDuel, DraftKings and many others have struck deals with the NFL in some capacity. To keep the integrity of the game in line with companies like that, the league has been forthright and gotten out in front of any potential issues that could have arisen.

In addition, there has been truly-useful analytical data coming in from trusted sources.

Changes In Attitude

Sports betting has taken on a life of its own, and we’re certainly starting to see that. Just on this recent Super Bowl, about $155 million was bet on the game in Nevada, while another $55 million in bets were placed in New Jersey.

Another show of trust with the NFL and gambling is the upcoming move of the Raiders going from Oakland to Las Vegas. Just a couple of short years ago, you would never believe this type of thing would have ever happened.

For an NFL team to be in Las Vegas is a major sign that gambling is here to stay for a long time within the game.

There has even been some thought that the NFL would actually push the idea of gambling on its own platforms – on TV, websites, etc. While it has been doing that to some extent, some believe this is just the tip of the iceberg.

From here, going forward, who knows what the NFL is truly capable of? This could be the start of something beautiful in the United States of America.
