NFL Continues Frenzy With Quarterback Moves

With the coronavirus casting a dark shadow over all of sports, the NFL gives us more than enough to talk about with day 2 of the free agency tampering period.

From Tom Brady reportedly heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Philip Rivers signing with the Indianapolis Colts, things will undoubtedly be way different this year for many teams.

Colts’ Main Man

Rivers landed himself a one-year deal with Indianapolis worth $25 million on Tuesday. Rivers finished 2019 with an 88.5 QBR and threw for 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

The long-time and former Charger will be taking over for Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, whose contract expires in 2021.

Going South

Brady heading to the Buccaneers is the big story of the day as people around the world are shocked. Sources close to Tampa Bay say the deal is worth around $30 million and good for one or two seasons.

Brady will be replacing Jameis Winston, who threw 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions last season. Winston could head anywhere as nobody has expressed much interest in signing him as of Tuesday.

Bears Moves

Defensive end Robert Quinn agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on a five-year deal worth $70 million. Quinn is expected to take the spot of Leonard Floyd, who the Bears released on Tuesday.

Chicago is still desperate for a quarterback to either take over for or challenge Mitch Trubisky, who has undoubtedly struggled leading the Bears offense down the field.

The Bears reportedly offered Teddy Bridgewater $60 million over three years, but Bridgewater announced Tuesday he’d be signing with the Carolina Panthers instead.

Other Moves

Long-time Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten agreed to a one year, $4.75 million deal with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday. Crazy to think just a couple of years ago, both Jon Gruden and Witten were in the booth broadcasting games, and now Gruden is probably teaching Witten what route to run in the notorious “Spider 2Y Banana.”

Bridgewater is headed to Carolina on a three-year, $63 million deal. It’s an exciting time to be a Panthers fan, to say the least, as things are undoubtedly looking up with the addition of Joe Brady and now Bridgewater.

Brady is said to be the reason behind a lot of Joe Burrow’s record-breaking 2019 season at LSU. Cam Newton’s time in Carolina is over as the Panthers officially gave Newton permission to seek a trade on Tuesday.

Amari Cooper will be re-signing with the Cowboys on a five-year deal worth $100 million, with $60 million guaranteed. Cooper finished the 2019 season with 1.189 yards over 79 receptions averaging 15.1 yards per catch for the Cowboys.

Linebacker Sean Lee will re-sign with the Cowboys as well on a one-year deal worth $4.5 million with $2 million guaranteed.

The official start time of free agency is Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. With big names like Winston and Newton yet to find new places to call home, the NFL free agency drama is just getting started.
