In the midst of Week 2 of the NFL preseason, the regular season seems like it is just around the corner. As general managers evaluate their teams, decide camp position battles, evaluate the free agent market and entertain extensions, this is a really busy time of the year for teams around the NFL.

In the midst of Week 2 of the NFL preseason, the regular season seems like it is just around the corner. As general managers evaluate their teams, decide camp position battles, evaluate the free agent market and entertain extensions, this is a really busy time of the year for teams around the NFL.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the biggest stories from the week in the NFL.

Seahawks and Adams Agree To New Deal

Undoubtedly, Jamal Adams is one of the best safeties in the game. Last season, Adams had 83 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and one forced fumble for the Seattle Seahawks. After giving up a bounty to get him last season (sending three picks, including two first-round picks), it is not a shocker that they are happy to get a long-term deal finalized.

In a report earlier in the week by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Adams is now set to make $70 million over the next four years, including $38 million in guaranteed money.

When looking on a per-year basis, this makes Adams the highest-paid safety in the NFL. Technically, Adams was still under contract this season, but a deal will not keep him both content and in Seattle for the next several years.

Last season, Seattle ranked 16th in scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of 23.6 points per game. This season, they are currently +280 to win the NFC West and +2000 to win the Super Bowl.

Tebow’s Time At Tight End Comes To An End

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars cut former quarterback-turned-tight-end Tim Tebow. While Urban Meyer said he did a decent job, it wasn’t enough to secure a spot after this round of roster cuts.

Now a free agent, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. He certainly could try to latch on somewhere else or even entertain a practice squad opportunity, but for now, his future in the NFL seems to be coming to an official end.

Jets’ Defense Suffers Blow As Lawson Tears Achilles

After signing defensive end Carl Lawson to a three-year deal worth $45 million over the offseason, the Jets faced the cruel reality this week that they will be without the defensive star this season. On Thursday, Lawson had to leave practice via a cart, and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that he has indeed suffered a torn Achilles.

Last season, with the Cincinnati Bengals, the 26-year-old Lawson had 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Expected to help a defense that ranked just 26th in scoring defense, allowing 28.6 points per game, the Jets will have to look elsewhere for an edge rusher.

Currently, the New York Jets are not expected to do much this season as they have the worst odds to win the AFC East (+1600) and are +12000 to win the Super Bowl.

David Njoku Wants To Stay In Cleveland Long-Term

It has been a bit unclear as to where tight end David Njoku stood when it came to his current team, the Cleveland Browns. While he has gone back and forth on a trade request, it now appears that he wants to stay with the Browns long-term.

In an interview, Njoku said that he wants to stay with the Browns, given that he doesn’t really know anything different.

Still, it is undeniable that his production and role in the offense has changed. In 2018, Njoku had 56 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns. While his time was limited due to injury in 2019, his 2020 was a disappointment. In 13 games (five starts), he had just 19 receptions for 213 yards and two scores.

With both Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant on the roster, it is once again unclear what Njoku’s role will be, but for now, he seems content staying with Cleveland.
