The Super Bowl is set after an exciting conference championship weekend that saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs win their respective conferences. While anticipation for the Super Bowl will grow over the next two weeks, there is plenty of other news circulating the NFL. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest stories.

Aaron Rodgers Refers To Future With Packers With Hesitation

After going 13-3 during the regular season and securing the top seed in the NFC, the Green Bay Packers were bounced in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday as they lost 31-26 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Conference championship.

As heartbreaking as the loss was, Packers’ fans were maybe even more devastated by Aaron Rodgers‘ comments after the game where he seemed unsure of his future with the organization.

Of course, Rodgers has been frustrated going back to the draft, where the team spent their first-round pick on quarterback Jordan Love. While it is assumed that Love is the heir-apparent, no one anticipated it could be this quickly, given Rodgers is signed through 2023.

Furthermore, Rodgers was remarkable this season and has a good chance of being the league’s MVP. He threw for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. Even in the loss to the Bucs, he threw for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and only a single interception.

While it is hard to imagine the Packers moving on from Rodgers, the comment is enough to lead to more questions than answers. It also seemed to catch head coach Matt LaFleur off guard as he strongly called for Rodgers to return next season.

Again, it is unclear whether this was just a comment made out of frustration from the loss, a statement made with an indication of wanting to be traded, or just concern that with the drafting of Love, the organization may want to move on. Regardless, it is something to keep an eye on when the offseason begins.

Matthew Stafford Moving Out of Motown

Staying in the NFC North, Matthew Stafford has been a fixture under center with the Detroit Lions since breaking into the league in 2009. Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported over the weekend that this might be his last, though.

It appears that Stafford and the Lions have come to a mutual agreement to look to trade the star quarterback. It isn’t necessarily surprising as the Lions are once again going through a coaching change and appears to be going through a rebuild.

For Stafford, a trade will potentially allow him to play for a contender while it may allow the Lions to net some always valuable draft capital.

Stafford started all 16 games throwing for 4,084 yards, 26 touchdowns, and ten interceptions this season. In 12 seasons in the Lions’ organization, he has thrown for over 45,000 yards while also throwing 282 touchdowns.

Turning 33 in February, Stafford still has the potential to be a valuable asset under center for a contending team, and there will undoubtedly be no shortage of teams looking for an established veteran quarterback to put them over the top.

Greg Olsen Calling It A Career

After a remarkable career that started back in 2007 with the Chicago Bears, tight end Greg Olsen calls it a career. On Sunday, Olsen announced his decision.

This season, Olsen played with Seattle, where he played in 11 games (8 starts), accumulating 24 receptions for 239 yards and a touchdown.

By far, the best seasons of his career came with the Carolina Panthers. From 2014 to 2016, he had over 1,000 yards receiving in each year with a combined 16 touchdowns over the course of those three seasons.

Olsen will now move onto his post-playing career as an analyst for FOX. At 35-years-old, he certainly had a heck of a run.
