NFL News and Notes: Brady Officially A Buccaneer

Thursday was relatively quiet for free agents in the NFL, but there were a couple of big moves starting with Darius Slay being traded to Philadelphia.
Tom Brady officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday morning on a two-year deal, and Todd Gurley is an Atlanta Falcon after being released from the Rams.
Players across the league are all the sudden overwhelmingly interested in joining Tom Brady and Bruce Arians down in Tampa Bay. Retired Hall of Famer Cris Carter was one of many who expressed interest and did so via Twitter. Carter quoted Adam Schefter’s tweet and said, “Sign me up!! No state tax, and playing with the goat @TomBrady.”
TB Officially Headed To TB
Brady has officially put pen to paper and signed a two-year, $60 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The $60 million is a ton of money for a quarterback, but when you’ve won six Super Bowls, you can essentially ask for whatever amount of money you want.
Arians has big hopes for the 2020 NFL season will be looking to solidify his legacy.
Brady took to social media Friday morning to say, “Excited, humble, and hungry …if there is one thing I have learned about football, it’s that nobody cares what you did last year or the year before that…you earn the trust and respect of those around through your commitment every single day. I’m starting a new football journey and thankful for the @Buccaneers for giving me an opportunity to do what I love to do.
“I look forward to meeting all my new teammates and coaches and proving them that they can believe and trust in me…I have always believed that well done is better than well said, so I’m gonna not gonna say much more – I’m just gonna get to work! #Year1″
Gurley to Atlanta
Gurley did not spend much time as a free agent as he inked a one-year deal with the Falcons Friday morning after being released by the Rams on Thursday. Gurley ran for 857 yards on 223 rushing attempts in 2019, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
Gurley ran for 12 touchdowns and caught two receiving touchdowns.
Slay Dealt To Eagles
Slay is officially headed to the Eagles following a trade with the Lions. Detroit gets Philadelphia’s third- and fourth-round draft picks in 2020 in exchange for Slay.
Slay signed an extension with the Eagles on a two-year deal worth $50 million, which guarantees $30 million. It’s a big move for the Eagles as they’ve struggled in the secondary in recent years.
Detroit, however, had one of the worst passing defenses in the league in 2019, so it will be interesting to see what they do to fix their secondary after trading away their most talented defensive back.
Other Moves
Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix signed with the Cowboys on a one-year deal worth reportedly $4 million.
Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell signed with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million. Campbell made an impressive 75 solo tackles in 2019 and assisted on 54 tackles.
