Kareem Hunt Out In Kansas City
After video surfaced of him attacking a young lady in a hotel, Kareem Hunt was released from the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Hunt, who had lied to the Chiefs about what had happened, was pretty much immediately released after video had surfaced. Put on release waivers, no one in the league claimed Hunt, effectively making him a free agent. Still, it is not expected that anyone will sign him in the near future. On the season, Hunt had rushed for 824 yards and 7 touchdowns while receiving another 378 yards and 7 touchdowns. In his place, the Chiefs have signed Charcandrick West.
A.J. Green Done For The Season
The Cincinnati Bengals made it official on Wednesday, placing A.J. Green on injured reserve, thus ending his season. Green has been hampered by a toe injury all season long and he finally succumbed to the issue last Sunday, when he actually was carted off the field in their game against the Broncos. In just 9 games this season for the Bengals, Green had gone for 694 yards and 6 touchdowns on 46 receptions. Sadly, the Bengals offense looked like a completely different team when he was off the field, something they will have to get used to for the rest of the season.
Steelers Will Be Without James Conner For At Least One Week
Throughout most of the season, most discussions about the Steelers included when people thought Le’Veon Bell would return to the team. For the Steelers, though, it was an afterthought due to the sensational season that James Conner was having as his replacement. Sadly, that sensational season will be put on hold for at least a week. In last week’s game, Connor sprained his ankle. While it was initially not thought to be serious, he has already been ruled out for this week’s game. It may just be that the Steelers want to make sure that Conner is ready for next week’s matchup against the Patriots knowing that they should be able to beat the Raiders even without him this week, but it is a huge blow to what has been a remarkable season. On the year, Conner has rushed for 909 yards and 12 touchdowns on 201 carries. He also has added 467 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Derrick Henry Goes Off On Thursday Night Football
Thursday night was a game that Derrick Henry will never forget. The Titans running back, who had come into tonight splitting backfield duties with Dion Lewis, made the backfield his own, even if it was for only one night. Henry rushed for a whopping 238 yards (a Titans record) and added 4 rushing touchdowns. He also had a wild 99-yard touchdown run as part of his night, one that actually only saw him carry the ball 17 times. All of this was en route to a 30-9 win for the Tennessee Titans over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. With the win, the Titans move to 7-6 and remain in the hunt for a wildcard spot in the AFC.
Emmanuel Sanders Out For The Season
Unfortunately for Denver, they were forced to put star wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders on injured reserve after he suffered a torn Achilles at practice on Wednesday. This season Sanders had gone for 868 yards and 4 touchdowns on 71 receptions. He was by far the best receiver for the Broncos, especially after they had traded Demaryius Thomas earlier in the season. This is a huge blow for a Denver team who is currently 6-6 and trying to fight and claw their way into a postseason spot.
Scary Situation For Alex Smith
It was bad enough that Alex Smith’s season was ended when he broke his fibula and tibia, but it now appears that he has another battle. Apparently, he is fighting an infection to the leg and there are some concerns that it may put his future in the league in question. The injury for Smith came on the heels of a very successful campaign for Smith. With the Redskins this year, he had thrown for 2,180 yards, 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions during the 10 weeks in which he played.
Unfortunately, the injury bug is running rampant with the Redskins, who also lost backup quarterback Colt McCoy to injury as he also broke his fibula. The Redskins are now turning to Mark Sanchez as their quarterback.
Couple Of Other Signings
With some of the notable injuries around the league, there have been a flurry of signings over the last couple days. Here are just a few of them:
Chiefs Sign Kelvin Benjamin: Benjamin was signed for the rest of the season on Thursday. With Sammy Watkins continuing to struggle to stay healthy with a foot injury, Benjamin will provide some depth for the Chiefs. Cut from the Bills earlier in the week, he had 23 catches for 354 yards and 1 touchdown.
Raiders Sign C.J. Anderson: After being released by the Carolina Panthers last month, C.J. Anderson has finally found a new home. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old running back signed with the Oakland Raiders, who were looking for depth after the season ending injury to Marshawn Lynch. Anderson struggled to find his footing in Carolina, only rushing for 104 yards on 24 carries. Still, his season last year showed that he can still be a productive player. For the Broncos last year, Anderson rushed for 1,007 yards and 3 touchdowns on 245 carries. He also added 224 yards and a touchdown last year receiving.
