NFL News and Notes for Friday, September 30th, 2022

After the season seemingly just started, we are already approaching the quarter mark of the regular season. While it is too early to determine contenders and pretenders, there has certainly been some surprising play from around the league.

While the action on the field is the main focus, there is plenty of news off the field as well. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest stories from the last week around the NFL.

Tagovailoa Exits Thursday Night Football On Stretcher

In a scary moment during Thursday Night Football, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was taken off the field on a stretcher after suffering what the Dolphins called a head and neck injury. He was sent to the hospital for examination after being sacked by the Bengals’ Josh Tupou.

Later in the Amazon broadcast, it was reported that he would be traveling back to Miami with the team, but this is now the second time in as many weeks that Tagovailoa has had to leave the game, although he returned last week against the Bills.

This season, Tagovailoa has thrown for 925 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. His solid start to the season has the Dolphins 3-1, with their first defeat coming Thursday night at the hands of the Bengals.

Currently, Miami has the second-best odds of winning the AFC East at +260, and they are +1900 to win Super Bowl LVII.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Questionable For Sunday’s Game

One of the best stories of the season thus far has been the play of the Detroit Lions’ offense, particularly standout wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Through three games, he has 23 receptions for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

As a whole, the Lions’ offense ranks second in scoring, averaging 31.7 points per game. Despite this solid offense, they are just 1-2 on the season.

Unfortunately, there is a chance that they may be without St. Brown on Sunday as he is recovering from an ankle sprain. On Wednesday, St. Brown indicated that he wasn’t sure if he would be able to go on Sunday or not.

With a couple of days left before Sunday’s game, it is still possible that it will be feeling well enough to go, but if not, that is a huge loss for the Lions.

They are currently the favorite to win Sunday’s game. Their moneyline sits at -210, while the Seahawks’ sit at +176 to win.

Myles Garrett Questionable After Car Accident

On Monday of this week, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was involved in a car accident after he lost control of his vehicle and rolled it multiple times. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident, and the belief is that Garrett was going too fast when the accident occurred.

According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, Garrett had injuries to his shoulder, biceps, and lacerations to his face. Luckily, he did not suffer any fractures and was cleared of a concussion.

With that good news, it appears that there is a chance that he could play in this Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Defensive coordinator Joe Woods indicated on Thursday that the team was still considering whether he could play or not.

Last season, Garrett had 51 tackles, 16 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. This season, he already has three sacks and a forced fumble through just three games.

The Browns are currently 2-1, good for a tie for first in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland’s odds of winning the Super Bowl sit at +4400.
