NFL News and Notes for October 26

With Week 7 coming to a close, we are quickly approaching the halfway point of the NFL season. As teams jockey for position within their divisions, there are a few teams already starting to create separation.

In fact, the Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, and Green Bay Packers all hold at least a two-game lead in their respective divisions.

While the focus and excitement has been on the field, there is plenty of news off of it as well. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest stories in the NFL this week.

Zach Wilson Out For The Foreseeable Future

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Zach Wilson suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s 54-13 blowout loss at the hands of the New England Patriots.

As a result of the injury, which was a sprained MCL, Wilson is expected to miss at least the next two to four weeks of action.

On the season, Wilson has thrown for 1,168 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions; He has also been sacked 19 times to this point.

For the Jets, they are off to a miserable 1-5 start and sit third in the AFC East. They currently have the worst odds of winning the division at +16000.

Couple Trades Ahead Of The Deadline

Even though the NFL trade deadline isn’t until November 2, a couple of teams have been active this week in the trade market.

First, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded Joe Flacco to the New York Jets. As previously reported, Zach Wilson is expected to miss two to four weeks with a knee injury, so the acquisition of Flacco gives the Jets some depth in the quarterback room.

Flacco actually played for the Jets last season. With New York, he played in five games, throwing for 864 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.

At 36-years-old, he is no longer the player he was in 2016 when he threw for 4,317 yards and 20 touchdowns with the Ravens. Still, the Jets are hoping that he can bring some veteran leadership to a team that has struggled mightily thus far.

In return, the Eagles are receiving a conditional sixth-round pick that could bump up to a fifth-rounder based on playing time.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Rams are sending Kenny Young and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick.

Young, a 26-year-old middle linebacker, has played in all seven games this season, amassing 46 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

The Broncos are currently 3-4 in the AFC West, while the Rams are 6-1 in the NFC West.

Davante Adams Put On COVID-19 List

On Monday, the Green Bay Packers announced that they have put wide receiver Davante Adams on the COVID-19 list. While it is uncertain as to whether he actually tested positive or whether it is just close contact, this is obviously not the news that the Packers wanted to hear as they are on a short week for Week 8.

They play the undefeated Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night, and it now appears that Adams’ availability is very much in jeopardy.

On the season, Adams has once again been Aaron Rodgers’ go-to guy as he has 52 receptions for 744 yards and three touchdowns through just seven games of the season.

His fast start has helped get the Packers off to a 6-1 start, best in the NFC North. In fact, the Packers are currently -700 to win their division, and they have the seventh-best odds of winning the Super Bowl at +1100.
