NFL News and Notes: Jaguars Plan On 25% Capacity, Masks
Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they were planning their stadium to be filled to 25% capacity for games, and masks would be mandated. The plan would allow for just under 16,750 fans due to TIAA Bank Field having a capacity of 67,000.
Baltimore has also announced a reduced capacity of under 14,000 for its home games at M&T Bank Stadium. Both teams are working with Ticketmaster to come up with a socially distant seating chart for the reduced capacities.
Mahomes Signs First Half-Billion Dollar Deal
Patrick Mahomes has been rewarded heavily for winning Kansas City a Super Bowl. He has signed a deal that will keep him with the Chiefs through 2031.
The deal has several “guarantee mechanisms” that kick-in year by year. The deal can bring in over $500 million if Mahomes hits all his bonuses. The deal has extremely high buyouts that help guarantee money that is rarely seen in the NFL.
Cardinals Owner Tests Positive for COVID-19
Michael Bidwill, the owner of the Arizona Cardinals, has tested positive for the coronavirus. Bidwill went to the hospital after a recommendation from his doctor after experiencing symptoms.
He is expected to be released from the hospital soon. He believes he caught it after working on the East Coast. Bidwill has been working remotely and hasn’t had any contact with anyone on the team.
Rodgers Questions Season
While golfing in the American Century Championship, Aaron Rodgers took questions on the upcoming NFL season. Rodgers said that he is hopeful for a 2020 NFL season but says that if there will be a season is definitely top of mind.
Rodgers is the Packers’ player representative, so he is up to date on the negotiations. He said player safety is the top priority, and he would like to see fans in the stands.
Pryor Drawing Interest
Terrelle Pryor, who last played in the NFL in 2018, has spoken with at least five teams. Pryor spent two games with Buffalo Bills and six with the New York Jets that season.
Pryor’s career was put in jeopardy after sustaining injuries to his shoulder and chest during a stabbing. The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have both reached out to Pryor about an opportunity to make the team as a wide receiver.
Pryor was a star quarterback at Ohio State in college. He had his best season with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, catching 77 balls for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.
Jackson Fined for Anti-Semitic Comments
DeSean Jackson will not be suspended for his anti-semitic posts on social media. The Philadelphia Eagles are going to fine Jackson for his comments, but he is not expected to receive any further punishments.
Several players spoke out against Jackson’s comments. Julian Edelman, who is Jewish, said that he hopes Jackson learns from his comments, and it will inform people across the league and nation.
