NFL News and Notes: Running Backs On The Move

The big news in the NFL on Friday was Tom Brady officially signing his deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The six-time Super Bowl champion signed a two-year deal worth $60 million.
But Friday started with breaking news out of Atlanta as Todd Gurley is officially headed back to Georgia on a one-year deal worth $5 million. Gurley played college ball at the University of Georgia and is looking forward to playing for the Falcons.
Gurley ran for 867 yards on 223 attempts in 2019 and ran for 12 touchdowns. The Rams released Gurley on Thursday and were willing to pay him nearly $20 million to officially release him from the team.
It seems he may not have seen it coming after he tweeted about getting fired on his day off, but it seems both Atlanta and Gurley are excited about the move.
Gordon To Denver
Melvin Gordon is leaving Los Angeles and heading to Denver after he signed a two-year deal worth $16 million with $13.5 million guaranteed. The contract makes Gordon one of the highest-paid running backs in the league, averaging $8 million a year.
Gordon ran for 612 yards on 162 rushing attempts in 2019 for an average of 3.8 yards per rush. The Chargers have some major holes to fill in their offense with the loss of longtime quarterback Philip Rivers to the Colts and now Gordon to the Broncos.
Sanders A Saint
Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders officially signed with New Orleans on Friday on a two-year deal worth $16 million. Sanders reportedly passed on offers from the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.
Sanders started his 2019 season in Denver but got traded midseason to the 49ers. Before making it to the Super Bowl just to lose to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, Sanders caught 36 passes for 502 yards for an average of 13.9 yards per catch.
Flacco Released
The Broncos have released Joe Flacco, who they undoubtedly overpaid in the first place. They restructured a deal with Flacco to create more cap space in 2019, which resulted in a loss of $13.6 million for the quarterback since he now cannot even pass a physical due to his neck injury.
Some question why Flacco does not just retire considering he has made upwards of $150 million over his career in the NFL.
Vikings Re-Sign Bailey
The trusty and reliable kicker in Dan Bailey just signed a three-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings worth $10 million, which is pretty good for a kicker. Robbie Gould is the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, making $10.5 million over two years, but I expect Bailey to eventually sign a new deal and will be the highest-paid kicker in the league at some point.
Bailey has proven himself plenty, making all three of his field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards in 2019. Bailey connected on a whopping 93.1% of his field-goal attempts last season and converted on 40 of 44 extra points.
