The Oakland Athletics come into Tuesday’s series opener with the Rockies on little rest after playing a doubleheader on Monday against Seattle. Colorado had an off day Monday, which does give them a slight advantage. After a hot start to the season, the Colorado Rockies have cooled off quite a bit.
Tuesday allows the Rockies to take down a strong Athletics team who could be a little worse for wear after a doubleheader. For the Athletics, if they can overcome the lack of rest and take down the Rockies, they’ll use this resilience in the playoffs. Oakland comes in as the obvious favorite here but should you place your money on them after playing back to back games?

The Athletics are the better team in this matchup, but anyone coming off of back to back games will be at somewhat of a disadvantage. The Oakland Athletics are a reliable team that has dealt with double headers before, especially in this shortened season.
On September 8th and September 12th the Athletics played back to back games against the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, in both doubleheaders the Athletics split the games 1-1. The good news for Oakland is that the Rockies are coming off of two-straight losses and morale is pretty low in Colorado.

What started as an excellent looking season for the Rockies has turned into a rough stretch, dropping them to fourth in the NL West and a 21-25 record. They’ll have a chance to improve their record if they can claim the first game of this series against the Oakland Athletics, especially with Oakland coming off a doubleheader.
That’ll be no easy feat against starting pitcher Sean Manaea who is 4-2 in six starts. Oakland has also added former All-Star Jake Lamb to the infield to bring some depth, giving the Rockies another weapon to worry about. Although the Athletics might be a little worn down after back to back games, one has to wonder whether the Rockies will hold off the best team in the AL West.
