Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas Jayhawks Betting Pick

The Kansas Jayhawks will be looking for a record 15th consecutive Big 12 regular season championship in 2019. Kansas will kick off conference play by hosting the Oklahoma Sooners at historic Allen Fieldhouse. Oklahoma is considered to be one of the teams that can dethrone Kansas this season but are in for a tough test in this game.

The Jayhawks are the number-two ranked team in college basketball and finished the non-conference portion of their season with an 11-1 record. Kansas has already beaten three top-25 teams this season, and they are battle tested. Oklahoma is also 11-1 on the young season, but they lost to the only top-25 team they have faced in Wisconsin.

Kansas Has Plenty of Weapons

Kansas head coach Bill Self once again has one of the top rosters in the entire country. The Jayhawks are averaging close to 82 points per game this season, and are shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. Kansas has a veteran backcourt led by Lagerald Vick, and have a pair of monsters down low in Udoka Azubuike and Dedric Lawson. Trying to figure out how to stop Kansas will drive Big 12 coaches crazy this season.

Lawson is in his first season in a Jayhawks uniform but leads the team with 19.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Kansas has played without Azubuike for much of the season, but he is back and appears to be fully healthy heading into Big 12 play. Lagerald Vick is deadly from the three-point line, shooting nearly 49 percent and pouring in 16 points per game. The Jayhawks aren’t always locked in on the defensive end of the floor, but they can score points in a hurry.

Christian James Leading Sooners Squad

The Sooners knew that they were going to have to find a way to replace the loss of Trae Young this season, and Christian James has stepped up in a big way. James leads the Sooners with 17.9 points per game this season and is shooting nearly 37 percent from the three-point line. Oklahoma is averaging 77 points per game this season, and Christian James is a big reason for that.

Outside of James, the Sooners have struggled to get consistent performances from the rest of their roster. Miles Reynolds and Brady Manek are the only other Oklahoma players averaging double figures, and they will need more players to step up against Kansas. Oklahoma shoots 20 three-pointers per game, and if they are making them can play with any team in the country. The Sooners offense will be a major key in this game.

Sooners Can’t Stop Kansas

Oklahoma and Kansas have given fans some instant classic games in recent years, and there should be plenty of offense in this game. Oklahoma has yet to face a team with as much firepower as Kansas has, and their defense will be tested all night. The Jayhawks are nearly impossible to beat at Allen Fieldhouse, and they won’t lose this game. Bet the Kansas Jayhawks over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Conference opener.
