PGA Announces Return Schedule

After a short time being suspended due to the coronavirus, the PGA Tour has announced it will be returning in June. The first day back will be on June 8 for the Charles Schwab Challenge. The first four events on the schedule will be held without spectators.

After that, they will take another look at the situation to see if it is possible to bring fans back.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan stated:

“The health and safety of all associated with the PGA TOUR and our global community continues to be our No. 1 priority, and our hope is to play a role – responsibly – in the world’s return to enjoying the things we love.

“Today’s announcement is another positive step for our fans and players as we look toward the future, but as we’ve stressed on several occasions, we will resume competition only when – working closely with our tournaments, partners and communities – it is considered safe to do so under the guidance of the leading public health authorities.”

The revised schedule is as follows:

  • June 8 to 14 – Charles Schwab Challenge
  • June 15 to 21 – RBC Heritage
  • June 22 to 28 – Travelers Championship
  • July 2 to 5 – Rocket Mortgage Classic
  • July 6 to 12 – John Deere Classic
  • July 13 to 19 – The Memorial Tournament Presented by Nationwide
  • July 20 to 26 – 3M Open
  • July 27 to August 2 – World Golf Championship, FedEx St. Jude Invitational
  • July 27 to August 2 – Barracuda Championship
  • Aug. 3 to 9 – PGA Championship
  • Aug. 10 to 16 – Wyndham Championship
  • Aug. 17 to 23 – The Northern Trust
  • Aug. 24 to 30 – BMW Championship
  • Aug. 31 to Sept. 7 – TOUR Championship

More Revisions

The PGA has also revised the 2020-21 season schedule. This includes The U.S. Open and The Ryder Cup to be played in September, while The Masters will be held in November.

That would mean there are going to be seven majors in less than a 12-month period. This could cause some scheduling difficulties, but it is great for fans and sportsbooks.

None of these schedule dates are set in stone. These events are set to change depending on federal and state guidelines that are released in the future. However, the PGA is confident in its ability to start playing the second week of June.

First Major

The first major on the schedule will be the PGA Championship, with the tournament beginning on Aug. 6. As always, golf fans will have their eyes on Tiger Woods to see how sharp he returns to play. Vegas Insider has already announced the odds for the major as well as the majors upcoming later in the fall. The top five in the odds are as follows:

  • Rory McIlroy: 13/2
  • Jon Rahm: 12/1
  • Tiger Woods: 14/1
  • Justin Thomas: 14/1
  • Brooks Keopka: 16/1

With the current guidelines and safety measures in place, it is impossible for some sports to come back very quickly. But hopefully, golf can be one sport that returns to normality sooner than others. Many businesses, such as online sports gambling operators, have high hopes that this plan can be successful.
