Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers Week 17 Betting Preview

The last week of the NFL season brings us an NFC West showdown as the Seattle Seahawks (11-4) will take on the San Francisco 49ers (6-9). With the ban on sporting events still in effect in the San Francisco area, this game will be played at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, and kickoff is at 4:25 P.M. Eastern.

Despite being the road team, the Seahawks are the favorite to win this one. They are -310 to win, while the 49ers’ moneyline sits at +250. The spread features San Francisco +7 while the over/under for total points is 45.5.

By The Numbers

Offensively, the Seahawks hold a significant edge in scoring. They rank 7th overall averaging 28.9 points per game. The 49ers rank 20th, averaging 23.5 points.

Defensively, it is once again the Seahawks who have the advantage. They rank 13th in the NFL in points allowed at 23.2 per game. Seattle has been even better over their last three matchups, allowing just nine points per game. For San Francisco, they rank 17th, allowing an average of 24.3 points per game to opponents.

Seattle Hoping For Win And Some Luck

Even though the Seahawks have already won the NFC West and have guaranteed a playoff spot, there is still a chance they could end up with the number one seed. They would need the Packers and Saints to lose to have a chance, but they are still planning on going for it by playing all of their starters.

Leading the way under center for the Seahawks is quarterback Russell Wilson. On the year, he has thrown for 4,031 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He has also rushed for 484 yards and another two scores.

Wilson is aided by having one of the best wide receiver tandems in the league. Tyler Lockett (88 catches, 964 yards, eight touchdowns) and DK Metcalf (80 catches, 1,282 yards, 10 touchdowns) have been fantastic this season.

After a rough start, Seattle’s defense has improved dramatically over the last several weeks. Over their last five games, the Seahawks have not allowed an opponent to score 20 points.

49ers Trying To End Season On A High Note

While San Francisco has no chance at a playoff spot, they certainly would love to spoil the Seahawks’ chances of the top spot and end the season on a high note.

It has been a bit of a quarterback carousel for the 49ers this season, but it looks like C.J. Beathard will likely get the start. Last week, in their win over the Cardinals, he threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns.

With Raheem Mostert out, Jeff Wilson will be leading the way on the ground. Wilson had a monster game last week, rushing 22 times for 183 yards. He also had a reception for 21 yards and a touchdown.

It is worth noting that the 49ers do plan on resting some veterans and some players with minor injuries. Some of the players include cornerback Richard Sherman, wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and defensive linemen Kevin Givens and Javon Kinlaw.

The Pick Is In

I expect the 49ers to come out and play hard, but I don’t think they have enough to matchup with the Seahawks. With a potent offense and with the defense playing so well, I like Seattle not only to win but to cover the seven-point spread as well.

FREE PICK: Seattle Seahawks (-7).
