On Sunday, Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning took on Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in a charity golf match. The Match: Champions for Charity was a successful and entertaining tournament, despite the weather. While it, unfortunately, rained during most of the match, the group was able to push through the wet conditions and still put on a good charity event.
Their golf carts were all personalized during play. For example, Peyton’s had Colts and Broncos logos on it, along with some Tennessee colors. All four of the carts will be auctioned off for coronavirus related charities.
It was a fun day of golf and they raised $20 million for charity. The event ended up being the most-watched golfing event ever, with over 6 million viewers tuning in. Peyton and Tiger were the favorites going in and they ended up taking home bragging rights.
Tiger Woods
It’s been a little while since fans have gotten to see Tiger play. Unlike the last matchup between these two, he did not disappoint. His swings were so smooth that he didn’t miss a fairway all day. When the PGA does make its return, it looks like he’ll be as ready as ever. Tiger fans have a lot to be optimistic about after this outing.
Tom Brady
Unlike Tiger, his opponent Tom Brady didn’t hit too many fairways. His game improved on the back nine, but for a while, Brady couldn’t find his stroke.
This caused for some joking around on social media. Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints even went on to say that he was liking the Florida version of Tom Brady.
Brooks Koepka was even confident enough to say he would add $100,000 to the donations if Tom Brady could get at least a par on the front nine. It wasn’t looking good until he holed out a wedge shot, possibly making the shot of the day.
Peyton Manning
Manning was his usual self, very accustomed to being a TV personality. He added some solid play as well, sinking a birdie putt on the second hole.
Following the match, he discussed the difficulty of playing with greats such as Tiger and Phil. But he was able to hold his own.
Phil Mickelson
The lefty seemed to enjoy himself on Sunday, carrying Tom Brady for most of the day. He made some bad shots, but in his regular fashion, came back with some incredible saves. He will look to carry this confidence and momentum to the first tournament since the suspension.
The Match 3
This has turned into a successful tournament with Phil and Tiger. These are two of the biggest names in golf and have found success with this face to face tournament.
The first was just them. The second they added two NFL legends. So, what about the third?
It would be hard to believe they wouldn’t do at least one more time, but who knows. Maybe in the future they’ll bring some young golfers into the mix? Justin Thomas could be a great addition who they had announcing the event on Sunday.
Now all golfing eyes will be back on the regular PGA schedule, as these two look to further their legacies.
