Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears Betting Prediction

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be at Soldier Field for a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Chicago Bears that pits a couple of 3-1 teams. The Buccaneers opened as a four-point favorite, which has almost held true thus far, shrinking to just 3.5 points.

The opening total was set at 44.5 and has held at that number at most online sportsbooks. As usual, the Thursday Night game will kick off at 8:20 pm ET and be broadcast on NFL Network and FOX.

Can The Bucs Continue To Plunder?

Since dropping its opening week game against the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay looks to have really gotten it together. Tom Brady has seemingly developed an effective rapport with his teammates and has been dominant over the last three weeks.

Over the last trio of games, Brady has thrown nine touchdowns and just two interceptions. One of those picks was a pick-six, which is happening far too often lately, but the numbers are still solid.

The concern for the Buccaneers is quickly becoming the health of all of the weapons around Brady. Both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are hurt, while stud tight end OJ Howard has been lost for the season due to a ruptured Achilles. Running back Leonard Fournette is dealing with an ankle injury, and his status is also up in the air.

According to the most recent injury report, Godwin is out for sure, while Fournette is doubtful. Evans is currently questionable. To add to the current lack of playmakers, running back Kenjon Barner has been suspended for four games, and LeSean McCoy is listed as out with an ankle injury.

The total has gone over in 15 of Tampa Bay’s last 18 games overall, and it is 7-3 straight up in its last 10 games going back to last season. In just the 2020 season, the Bucs are 2-2 against the spread and have gone over in three of their four games. They are 1-1 straight up on the road so far.

Should the Bears start Trubisky?

One of the real mysteries of the NFL universe is Nick Foles. When he is on, he is cash money, but just when he has convinced you that he deserves the starting job or a big contract, he goes into the tank. I was genuinely excited when he staged a fourth-quarter comeback against the Falcons after replacing starter Mitch Trubisky, but the Bears looked downright dreadful last week against the Colts with Foles as the starter.

If the Chicago offense doesn’t look significantly better this week, I am not sure what they are going to do.

Chicago is 2-2 against the spread so far this season but is 0-2 ATS at home. What might be even more strange is that in 31 home games in his career, Foles has a 28-to-17 touchdown-to-interception ratio, but in 29 career road games, that ratio is 47-to-20.

The Bears are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games overall, and the total has hit the under in six of their last seven games.

My Pick

Never leave the table when you’re on a heater. Don’t overthink this. Brady is finding his rhythm, and if he has shown us anything over his career, it’s that he doesn’t need stars around him to win games.

Look for Rob Gronkowski to have a heavy target game, and Ronald Jones III to get a ton of carries. The Bucs defense looks at least competent this season, which should be enough to hold Foles and Allen Robinson in check. Tampa Bay by a ton; take the over.
