Texas Longhorns at Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview

Sunday features a battle of Big 12 versus Pac-12 as the No. 17 Texas Longhorns (7-2) square off with the Stanford Cardinals (6-3). This game will be played at T-Mobile Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 pm ET.

After losing to No. 16 Seton Hall last week, the Longhorns were able to bounce back with a 63-31 victory over AR-Pine Bluff on Tuesday. In the win, Tre Mitchell led the way with 14 points and five rebounds.

Having yet to win away from their home court, the Longhorns will look to take down the unranked Cardinals Sunday.

Speaking of Stanford, they have won two straight, including an 89-78 win over Dartmouth on Thursday. Stanford had four players score in double digits in the victory, led by Jaiden Delaire with 22 and Brandon Angel with 18.

The Longhorns are the favorite in this one. They are -630 to win while the Cardinals’ moneyline sits at +450. The spread features Stanford +10.5 (-110), and the over/under for total points is 129.5 (-110).

More Odds

Texas currently has the third-best odds of winning the Big 12 at +300. The Cardinals are +8000 to win the Pac-12.

In terms of winning the National Championship, Texas is +3000 to win it all while Stanford is +30000.

By The Numbers

Texas has statistically had the better offense thus far this season. They rank 104th, averaging 73.2 points per game. Stanford ranks 138th, averaging 72 points.

Defensively, Texas has been one of the best in the nation. In fact, they rank second overall in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 53.6 points per game. The Cardinals rank 206th allowing 70.9 points per game.

Texas Looks To Win First Road Showdown

Currently, 0-2 on the road, Texas will look to pick up its first road victory and win their second in a row Sunday.

Leading the way for the Longhorns has been senior forward Timmy Allen. Thus far, he is averaging 13.1 points per game on 57.9% shooting. He is also averaging 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

The only other double-digit scorer is Tre Mitchell. The junior forward is averaging 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.

Other major contributors for Texas include Courtney Ramey (9.6 points, 3.9 rebounds), Andrew Jones (8.8 points, 1.9 steals), Marcus Carr (8.4 points, 3.4 assists, 1.2 steals), and Christian Bishop (8 points, 3.7 rebounds).

Stanford Looks For Upset As They Host Texas

At 6-3, the Cardinals have had a solid start to the season. Despite their decent record, they haven’t had a signature win to this point. That can change with a win over Texas Sunday night.

Forwards Jaiden Delaire and Harrison Ingram have both gotten off to good starts this season. For Delaire, the senior has averaged 12.6 points on 50.6% shooting. He is also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

Not to be outdone, the freshman Ingram has averaged 12.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Michael O’Connell (7.4 points, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals), Spencer Jones (7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds), and Brandon Angel (6.3 points, 2.2 rebounds) have also contributed in the early going. Of note, Spencer Jones is questionable for Sunday’s game with a leg injury.

Take Longhorns to Win And Cover

While the Longhorns are no slouch on the offensive side, Texas should be able to separate themselves from Stanford with their defense. They have allowed just 51 points per game over their last three games and allowed just 31 in their last game.

While their road performances have not been quite as stellar, expect the Longhorns to pick up their first road victory Sunday. Take Texas to both win and cover the 10.5-point spread.
