UCLA Bruins at Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview

Top-25 teams will square off Wednesday night as the No. 16 UCLA Bruins (8-2) take on the No. 20 Maryland Terrapins (8-2). The Terrapins will host this one at the Xfinity Center, with tipoff scheduled for 9:00 pm ET.

Coming into this one, UCLA has won five in a row, including a 87-64 route over Denver in their last start. In the win, Jaylen Clark led all scorers with 24 points. Jaime Jaquez Jr (18 points) and Dylan Andrews (11 points) also had big nights for UCLA.

For Maryland, they have lost back-to-back games against both No. 22 Wisconsin (64-59) and No. 6 Tennessee (56-53). In Sunday’s loss to the Vols, Jahmir Young led the Terrapins in scoring with 18 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.

The Terrapins come into this one as slight favorites playing at home. They are -114 to win, while the Bruins’ moneyline sits at -105. The over/under for total points is 140.5.

UCLA Looks For Signature Win

While the Bruins have won five games in a row, it hasn’t exactly been against top-tier talent. In fact, their only two losses of the season were against top-25 teams in No. 18 Illinois (79-70) and No. 11 Baylor (80-75). On Wednesday, they have an opportunity to pick up that signature win on the road against Maryland.

Offensively, the Bruins rank 18th in the nation as they average 81.3 points per game (75 on the road). Their offense is led by senior guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. In 10 games, he is averaging 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

Aside from Jaquez, four other players on the Bruins are averaging at least 9.9 points. Those major contributors include Jaylen Clark (15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals), Tyger Campbell (13.2 points, 4.8 assists), Amari Bailey (10.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists), and David Singleton (9.9 points, 3.5 rebounds).

Defensively, the Bruins rank 46th, allowing 63.3 points per game to opponents (75 on the road).

Maryland Looks To Break Losing Streak

Having lost two games in a row, the Terrapins will look to get back into the win column Wednesday night. They will look to take advantage of playing on their home court, where they are 5-0 this season, to get it done.

Maryland currently ranks 70th in the nation in scoring, averaging 75.8 points per game. They have four players averaging double digits, led by senior guard Jahmir Young.

In 10 games this season, Young is averaging 15.6 points on 43% shooting. He is also averaging 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The other double-digit scorers include Donta Scott (14.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks), Hakim Hart (12.4 points, 5.3 rebounds), and Julian Reese (11.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks).

While the offense has been solid, the defense for Maryland has been even better. They currently rank 23rd in the nation, allowing just 60.8 points per game to opponents.

Take Maryland To Win At Home

This should be an excellent matchup Wednesday night, potentially the best on the college basketball slate of games. On the one hand, Maryland is trying to break a losing streak, while UCLA is trying to prove it can have success against top teams.

Looking at the trends, UCLA is just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games. They are also just 2-6 in their last eight games against Big Ten teams.

For Maryland, they are 8-0 in their last eight home games and 8-2 against the spread in their last 10.

Expect Maryland’s defense to slow down the Bruins, especially holding a size advantage on the interior. It wouldn’t be shocking to see this one stay close, but there is a lot of value in taking Maryland to win at home Wednesday night.

Take Maryland to win at home (-114).
