Week 13 NFL News Roundup

Between games being postponed multiple times and COVID-19 cases causing more concern, this has been a pretty chaotic week in the NFL. As teams are preparing for playoff pushes, there was plenty of news circulating around the league that impacted both contenders and pretenders. Here are some of the biggest stories from the week.

Will Fuller Suspended

The Houston Texans received some bad news this week as the league announced wide receiver Will Fuller will be suspended for the next six games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

This season, Fuller has been the Texans’ most productive receiver. In 11 games, he has had 53 receptions for 879 yards and eight touchdowns.

The receiver position has been a hot topic for Houston ever since the now-fired Bill O’Brien traded away star receiver Deandre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. With Fuller now out, Brandin Cooks will likely become the go-to guy for Deshaun Watson.

Unfortunately for Texans fans, Fuller wasn’t the only player suspended. Cornerback Bradley Roby has also been suspended for violating the PED policy, ending his season as well. On the year, Roby had 37 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.

The Texans are currently 4-7, sitting in third place in the AFC South. Likely too far out of the playoff picture, Houston is shifting focus towards the 2021-22 season at this point.

Steelers Lose Dupree For The Rest Of The Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers also lost a star player for the season, but unlike Houston, this loss resulted from an injury. In the game against the Baltimore Ravens, Steelers’ defensive end Bud Dupree tore his ACL. According to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo and Aditi Kinkhabwala, Dupree will be put on Injured Reserve, and his season will be over.

Dupree has been in the midst of an excellent season. He had 31 tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles this year. At just 27, he will likely be back on the field after making a full recovery, but it may not be for the Steelers. Dupree is a free agent after the season, making the timing of this injury all the worse.

Daniel Jones Could Miss Time For Giants

The New York Giants also are dealing with an injury but to a player on the offensive side. Quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a hamstring injury and is questionable. The injury has been characterized as “pretty bad,” according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, meaning that he could be out for the foreseeable future.

Jones has shown glimpses of being a serviceable NFL quarterback this season but still needs to be more consistent. While he has thrown for 2,335 yards and eight touchdowns, he has also thrown nine interceptions and been sacked 31 times. Jones has had some success on the ground as he has rushed 55 times for 403 yards and a touchdown.

Right now, the New York Giants are 4-7, but that is surprisingly good enough for first place in the woeful NFC East. Washington has the same record as them, but the Giants currently hold the tiebreaker. Regardless, the Giants are in playoff contention and hope that Jones can return soon to help them get there.

49ers To Play Home Games On The Road

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in California, the San Francisco 49ers are stuck without a home. Santa Clara County, where the 49ers reside, has effectively prohibited the team from playing home games as it looks to turn the tide on the outbreak of the coronavirus.

With the 49ers looking for a place to play, they have struck an agreement with the Arizona Cardinals to use their stadium for their next two home games. The 49ers will play in Arizona in Week 13 against Buffalo and in Week 14 against Washington. In Week 17, San Francisco also has a home game, but they are holding out hope that they may return to their own stadium for that one.

Currently, the 49ers are 5-6, but that is good for last place in a loaded NFC West.
