Week 3 of College Football Comes to an End
College football fans are already three weeks deep into the thrilling 2023 season, and Week 3 delivered some unforgettable moments.
While the schedule didn’t boast many marquee matchups, it still managed to spring a couple of Top 25 upsets, making it a weekend worth remembering.
Upset in Columbia
One of the most jaw-dropping moments occurred when the 15th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats faced off against the Missouri Tigers. In an astonishing turn of events, the Tigers secured a heart-stopping victory with a 61-yard field goal as time expired.
This dramatic win catapulted Missouri to a pristine 3-0 record for the season, putting them in contention for a Top 25 spot. The Tigers are now gearing up for clashes against Memphis and Vanderbilt, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown with LSU on October 7th.
Other SEC Results
In the realm of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Florida Gators took on the Tennessee Volunteers in a matchup that had fans on the edge of their seats. The Gators emerged victorious, triumphing 29-16, and they did so in a convincing fashion. Florida seized control early and never looked back, scoring a staggering 20 points in the second quarter alone. Both teams now boast 2-1 records, and the SEC drama is just beginning to unfold.
Also – LSU Tigers left an indelible mark in Week 3 with a dominant performance against Mississippi State. LSU stormed into enemy territory and established a commanding 24-0 lead before the Bulldogs managed to find the end zone.
The second half offered no respite for Mississippi State, as they suffered their first defeat of the season. With this resounding victory, LSU now stands at 2-1 and has reaffirmed its presence in the SEC hierarchy.
Staying within the SEC, two of the conference’s heavyweights, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs, prevailed in their respective matchups. Alabama, fresh from a Week Two stumble against Texas, found themselves locked in a 3-3 tie with South Florida at halftime. However, they roared to life in the second half, scoring two crucial touchdowns to secure a 17-3 win.
As for Georgia, they faced adversity, trailing 14-3 at halftime against a determined South Carolina team. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs mounted a stunning comeback, rattling off 21 unanswered points to emerge victorious with a final score of 24-14. Despite their valiant efforts, South Carolina now stands at a 1-2 record for the season.
