Xavier Musketeers vs. Butler Bulldogs Betting Preview

Big East rivals will square off Friday night as the No. 13 Xavier Musketeers (19-5, 11-2) take on the Butler Bulldogs (12-13, 4-10). Butler will host this one at the Hinkle Fieldhouse, with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 pm ET.

Xavier is the favorite in this one despite playing on the road. They are -275 to win, while the Bulldogs’ moneyline sits at +220. The spread features Butler as 6.5-point underdogs (-110), and the over/under for total points is 145.5.

Xavier Hopes To Keep Stranglehold On Conference

At 11-2 in the Big East the Xavier Musketeers currently hold a half-game lead over Marquette in the conference.

Trying to keep a hold of the conference, Xavier will look to win on the road, where they are 5-2 this season.

Xavier has won back-to-back games coming into this one, including a 96-71 win over St. John’s in their last game. In the victory, Jack Nunge had a game-high 21 points, while Colby Jones and Souley Boum combined for 36 points.

Boum has led the way in scoring this season, averaging 16.3 points per game. Second-leading scorer Zach Freemantle (15.2 points, 8.1 rebounds) is out for this one with a foot injury.

As a whole, Xavier ranks third in the nation in scoring, averaging 83.8 points per game. On defense, the Musketeers have struggled. They rank 310th overall, allowing an average of 76 points per game (80.3 on the road).

Butler Looks For Signature Home Win

It has been a pretty rough season overall for the Bulldogs. Sitting 12-13, they are second to last in the conference, but they have played well at the Hinkle Fieldhouse, going 9-4 this season. They will look to continue that home court advantage as they host the Musketeers.

Butler ranks 105th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of 67.7 points per game (64.8 at home). In terms of scoring, they fall to 276th, averaging 66.5 points (71.1 at home).

Sophomore guard Jayden Taylor leads the team in scoring. He is averaging 12.2 points on 41.7% shooting. He is also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Other contributors include Chuck Harris (11.7 points, 3.5 rebounds), Manny Bates (11.6 points, 5.6 rebounds), and Simas Lukosius (11.4 points, 4 rebounds). Unfortunately for Butler, Harris is questionable for this one due to a concussion.

Take Xavier To Win And Cover

Xavier enters this game having won 15 of their last 17 games and four of their last six against Butler. In their last five road games versus Butler, they are 4-1 against the spread.

For the Bulldogs, they are just 1-5 in their last six games and 3-6 against the spread in their last nine.

This boils down to the best offense in the Big East going against the worst. While playing on the road might slow down Xavier a little bit, Butler doesn’t have the defense to hold them down too much.

Take Xavier to run away with this one with relative ease. Take Xavier to both win and to cover the 6.5-point spread (-110).
