National League Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers will continue their very important three0game series on Tuesday night. Both the Cardinals and Brewers are trying to clinch a playoff spot in the very tight National League. The Brewers beat the Cardinals in the series opener, 6-4.

The Brewers victory, coupled with a Chicago Cubs lost has them now just 1.5 games behind the Cubs in the National League Central division. The Brewers hold the top Wild Card spot over the Cardinals. St. Louis now holds just a one half game lead over the red-hot Colorado Rockies for the final wild-card spot in the National League. The St. Louis Cardinals are -113 over the Brewers in game two of the series.

Christian Yelich Powering Brewers

Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has carried the offense in his first season in Milwaukee. Yelich leads the team with 178 hits and a .321 batting average heading into the series against the Cardinals. The .321 batting average is also tops in the National League. Jesus Aguilar has provided the pop for the Brewers, belting 33 home runs and driving in 104 runs this season.

Newly acquired Gio Gonzalez will make the start for the Brewers on Tuesday night. Gonzalez is 9-11 with a 4.28 earned run average overall this season, but he has been much better with the Brewers. The lefty is 2-0 in his three starts with the Brewers and has given up just three total runs during those starts.

Austin Gomber Starts For Cardinals

Rookie left-hander Austin Gomber will start on Tuesday night for the Cardinals. Gomber has made 27 appearances with St. Louis this season and will be making his eleventh start in this game. Gomber is 6-1 with an impressive 3.63 earned run average in his first season in the Major Leagues. The Cardinals need another solid start from Gomber in this game.

Cardinals outfielder Marcell Ozuna is starting to get hot at the right time for St. Louis. Ozuna blasted a go ahead two run homer off of Josh Hader on Monday night, and has had a great month of September. Ozuna leads the Cardinals with 157 hits this season and also leads the team with 87 runs driven in. Ozuna and Matt Carpenter hope to carry the Cardinals to a win in game two of the series.

Cardinals Win Game Two

This series could be a preview of the National League Wild Card game, but both teams still have work to do. The Brewers used all of their weapons out of the bullpen Monday night to take the series opener. Milwaukee has been scoring runs like crazy in the last month of the season and will look to stay hot in this game.

The Cardinals have been using young starting pitchers all season long and will keep the trend going in this game. St. Louis was plagued by costly errors and mental mistakes on Monday night but will correct those in this game. Look for the Cardinals to even the series against the Brewers on Tuesday night. Bet the St. Louis Cardinals -113 in this game.
