AFC Showdown: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Two of the top teams in the AFC will meet up in week two of the NFL season. The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle of 2017 NFL playoff teams. Both of these teams feature veteran head coaches that have a roster full of proven veterans, but the Chiefs are led by a young quarterback.

The Kansas City Chiefs were impressive in their season opener, going on the road and defeating the Los Angeles Chargers by a score of 38-28. The Pittsburgh Steelers turned in a very sloppy performance in week one, and left Cleveland with a tie against the Browns. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a 5.5 point favorite over the Chiefs in week two.

Le’Veon Bell Still A No-Show

All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell has still not reported to the Steelers, and they will be without him again in this game. Backup running back James Conner was solid in relief of Bell in week one. Conner rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the game against the Browns, but Bell’s absence is still holding the Steelers back. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 335 yards in week one, but struggled taking care of the ball.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense actually had a solid outing in week one, but will face a much tougher task in week two. The Steelers were able to tally seven sacks in the season opener with T.J. Watt recording three of them. The Steelers defense was put in a tough spot several times in that game, but were able to keep the Browns out of the end zone on many of those chances. Pittsburgh will need to find a way to deal with the explosive Kansas City offense in this game.

Chiefs Offense Impressive in Opener

The Kansas City Chiefs had a very impressive showing on offense in their season opening win against the Chargers. Patrick Mahomes was solid in his starting debut, throwing for 256 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Tyreek Hill had a long punt return for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass to burn the Chargers. Kansas City hopes to have the same result in week two against the Steelers.

The Kansas City defense will be without safety Eric Berry again this week. Berry has been battling a sore heel, but the Chiefs expect him to return soon. The Chiefs were only able to record one sack in week one, and they will need to find a way to get more pressure on Roethlisberger in this game. Kansas City won’t be able to rely on their offense to win games for them every week.

Steelers Bounce Back At Home

The Pittsburgh Steelers committed six turnovers in week one, and it led to them tying with the Cleveland Browns. The Chiefs were able to take advantage of a week Chargers defense to put up 38 points. This game should go a lot differently for both teams, and the Steelers defense will find a way to minimize the weapons for the Chiefs. Look for Pittsburgh to take care of the ball in this game and find a way to score more points. Bet the Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5 to bounce back and beat the Chiefs by a touchdown or more.
