ALCS Game 3 Betting Preview: Houston Astros at New York Yankees

The American League Championship will head to a Game 3 on Tuesday, and this series looks like it might go the distance. Both teams have won a game so far in this series, but the Yankees have stolen home-field advantage with their win in Game 1. The Astros will need to win a game in New York if they are going to extend this series back to Houston.

Houston had the best record in baseball during the regular season, and they are trying to make a return to the World Series after winning the title in 2017. The Astros were able to win Game 2 of the series in extra innings to even it at 1-1.

The New York Yankees cruised to the American League East title this season, and they are trying to make a long-awaited return to the Fall Classic. New York blew a great chance to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Houston is -166 over the New York Yankees in Game 3.

Cole Has Been Dominant For Astros

Gerrit Cole will make this start for the Astros, and he has been dominant this season. Cole went 20-5 during the regular season and could be named the Cy Young Award winner in the American League. The hard-throwing right-hander has pitched well so far in his two postseason starts and will be a nightmare for the Yankees to deal with.

Houston has not done a lot of hitting so far in this series, but they were able to survive the first two games. Carlos Correa had an RBI double in Game 2, then hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning. Third baseman Alex Bregman was one of the best hitters in baseball this season, but he has been held in check in these playoffs. Houston will need to score runs despite how great Cole pitches.

Yankees Need To Hit The Long Ball

The New York Yankees blasted home runs like crazy all season long, and they need to use that strategy in this game. The Yankees aren’t likely to string a ton of hits together against Cole, but they can score via the long ball. Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer in the Game 2 loss, and young Gleyber Torres drove in five runs in the series opener. Scoring runs off of Cole is not an easy task, but the Yankees have the bats in their lineup to get it done.

Luis Severino will take the mound for the Yankees in this game, and it’s hard to know what to expect. Severino was injured almost the entire season and went just 1-1 with a 1.50 earned run average when he was on the mound. The Yankees do have one of the most talented bullpens in baseball, and they will likely see plenty of action in this game.

Astros Take 2-1 Series Lead

Playing at home gives the New York Yankees a slight edge in this game, but the pitching matchup does not. The Yankees will need Severino and their bullpen to go pitch for pitch with Cole, but that is easier said than done. Cole has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball this season, and he will shut down the Yankees in this game. Look for the Astros to get just enough offense to take a 2-1 series lead. Bet the Houston Astros -166 over the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the ALCS.
